1. Any deck can beat any deck with the good RNG
2. 40-card deck supported by only 6 rustlers vs 30-card deck with 6 DLs and 12 creatures is not going to win very often, but RNG can certainly troll
1 & 2) RNG has the nasty habit to troll since the beginning of the universe. Manytimes, even the correct guess of what deck type your opponent is going to use is just based on luck. So yeah, luck plays the major role at EtG. But, since this is true, the same can be said about Aether victories through Wars; that they are more luck than skill. "RNG can certainly troll" phrases work both ways, like a double-edged sword; you should never forget that...
2) 39-card deck supported by 8 pillars & 6 rustlers & 6 Mitosis can beat 30-card deck supported by 8 pillars & 6 Drain Lifes (1 for each rustler). Smaller deck size means it is easier for you to draw the DLs, but if the rustler deck manages to Mitosise a single Rustler even once it is gg for you. You underestimate the power of the Mitosis. Moreover, the
deck has the same quanta production of a mono
with an off-element mark. Difference is, if the Rustler deck wishes to convert any amount of
quanta into double that amount of
quanta within a single turn and had player a Rustler at the previous turn and that Rustler still leaves, then it can do it. Versatility is power... nough said.
