Well now, that completely ruins ready steam machines, ready nymphs, or other non time cards that would use SoR. The problem is, this card was already pretty niche, being used in a certain possibly broken situation. Nerfing it like this would make it unviable in the other creative uses it had.

Well, I can't think of any ways for this to be more easily usable with creatures outside of Time in the same way before this change, but for me a good start would be to make both versions cost less.  Even with the upped version still being usable with a single Supernova it's enough of a nerf from it's former strength, and I don't really think that going from 3 :rainbow to 3 :time is a fair trade off for this card.

I think just stopping chaining is enough for this card (goodbye Instosis, Mummy-RT-SoR), but if all of the shards are going to become elemental cards, I'll live with it.

I'm glad that this change puts a stop to the instosis and mummy/rt/sor decks, but I'm sad that it kills nymph-SoR, steam machine-sor, squid-sor, and decks like that.  I would have been much happier with a change that simply actually implemented the literal text of the card, rather than allowing the spamming of SoR on time creatures to activate them 12 times in one turn, instosis style.

edit: okay, basically i'm quoting ninja-mesaprotector.  I agree word for word with what he said.

Well, maybe the upped version could retain a rainbow cost. This way the biggest concern - the shard being unable to help monos and such - could be solved.
I'd also lower the unupped card's cost by one.

I like it, although I do tend to like those with Underworld-ish costs. Seems like giving it a non-definitive element-cost (since it's based off of what is being SoR'd) could still allow it to be more versatile while not being as powerful as pre-berf (1.31)
Gone for awhile now, though I still pop by from time to time.

Unfortunately, as of now the cost is taken out as soon as you click on the card, before you target something.  Not sure how easy it is to fix.

What could happen is that it takes a cost of zero to play, but you can only target cards that you have the quanta to pay the cost of SoR, so you could check which cards you could play it on without repercussions.

Updated OP:

A few new balance changes for SoR, SoW and Thunderstorm
Why not just make SoR recharge the ability once rather than going into the effort to make it double-charged and putting restrictions on it?
My 3 game-modification principles:
1. If it ain't broke, don't wreck it.
2. Simple fixes for simple problems.
3. Remember to fill in the holes.
