I humbly disagree. There are lots of different tier combinations that can produce powerful decks. There is no one combination that is drastically more OP than any other combination. And if majority of teams have a certain combination, there is no alternative combination that can hard counter them. At this point, teams that have posted their choice will not change their choice regardless of what others choose. And teams that haven't posted probably already have their elements chosen and seeing other teams post their choices is not going to change their decision. So, imo, waiting til the last second is pointless.


Legit question here. I'm assuming matches are randomized (ie tier 1 can play a tier 3, instead of tier 1s only play tier 1s), correct? Otherwise, there will probably be LOTS of mirror matches within the event.

This will soon be archived.. any thoughts on the rules this time around, while it's still somewhat fresh in your mind?

My thoughts:

 - I think the Double-elimination swiss style worked perfectly (even though it was a bigger disadvantage for my team).
 - The 'tiered' elements changed things up a bit, but next time will probably be back to normal.
 - The substitution system also seemed to work well.

-Tiered elements worked, but there were combination of elements that were simply OP.

For example: I went undefeated with my Darkness+Aether(also ddevans only lost in finals) just because I had everything I needed:
CC(And strong one), PC, stalling power(12 CC cards+6 dims is nothing to laugh at), PUGons with just about every element I get(The best one I got for PUGons was light, since I got a pretty nice CC resistant creature) and DragonLS, that was pretty much my favorite deck this event.

-No comment at sub system, even though I didn't saw subs needed.

-Double-elimination swiss style was pretty nice, even though normal double-elimination would have been better for the team  :P

Using 3-6 ups had been considered.  I think that'd be fine but no ups was fine too.

Byes are a tremendous advantage in double elim.  I think either a greater emphasis needs to be placed on either getting 16 teams to register (ideally), or giving byes to the teams with the best win/loss ratio or something.

Even with 16 teams, there will be a guaranteed bye in round 4, if I give it to the top team, there will be an odd number of teams in round 5, as well.. which means another bye.

Also, I guess ups could have be based on your tier?
