ak65ala (Power:1) 0 - 2 Svenningen (Power:1)

The following is the epic but short tale of ak65ala, his quest to be The One, and how such things never really work out like they do in books.

ak65ala grew up in the vast trackless deserts of the east.  Some say he was a hermit, some a vagabond, some a bandit.  He lived off the land, every day a struggle between his own will and the harsh elements.  One simple day, just like all the rest, but in a distinct way special, the elements almost took his very life.  While climbing a sun-drenched cliff, just as he had done for countless years, disaster struck.  Where he had always placed his foot, placing his faith within this crack to hold his weight, the rock gave way.  The open air was all that caught him as gravity pulled him towards his doom.  The fall shattered his leg, leaving him unable to move, naked to the noon sun. 

Knowing the deadly situation he found himself in, ak65ala wasted no time.  Spotting a recess in the cliff wall, he summoned all of his effort and drug himself into the crevice.  Nature was not done with him yet.  Within the crevice, lay a den of scorpions.  ak65ala did his best to fight them off, but he was incapacitated by their venom.  Blackness enveloped his vision.

The next thing ak65ala saw was the inside of a room.  Wooden walls, thatched roof and nothing but the bed he lay on and a man on a stool besides him.  The man had a stern demeanor and went straight to the point.  This man did not care who ak65ala was, or where he came from.  He only offered him one thing.  Agree to fight in a tournament, a game of strength and will and he would heal ak65ala.  Refuse to fight, and ak65ala would die from his wounds.  ak65ala had no choice but to fight.

5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rm 5rm 5rm 5rr 5rr 5rr 5rr 5rr 5ru 5ru 5ru 5ru 5ru 5s4 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 5t2 7q5ak65ala was brought to a great arena.  A multitude of onlookers cheered as he entered, knowing only one would leave the ring.  Already standing near the center was the man people call Svenningen.  The gate closed behind ak65ala.  It had begun.  Summoning the visions from his village to aid him in his hour of need, calling upon the ancient powers of the dragons and using his telepathic insight, ak65ala assaulted Svenningen quickly and deadly.  Svenningen however was a great wizard from the east, summoning creatures from the earth, warewolves, calling down lighting form the sky to smite the assaulting dragons, frost to stop ak65ala's creatures onslaught.  The spell that called down doom on ak65ala was the fog.  His creatures became disoriented and lost, leaving him open for the finishing blow.

ak65ala now rests with his people.  May you tell of his story, lest he be forever forgotten.

WIN (yeah I forgot to take an upgrade :-[)

Great games ralouf. The first two came down mainly to the coin toss I think with us splitting it. Third game I made a turn 2 Discord and thought I had this for sure, but he managed to put up a Skull Buckler which zapped my dragon on first hit and then another one I played the turn after as well. It got really close, but I managed to push through with my remaining Abominations mainly.
I have 3 upps now.

Another deck from Svenningen...with an extra Black Hole. We went very close until turn 9, when I play Lightning on his momentumed Shrieker and Black Hole, which secures the win on next turn.

I'll find my decks eventually in this mess of a deck list.  Basically didn't use anything I'd ever consider as a good BL deck since I don't want to post them up.

1st game was some sort of mono air deck

2nd game was this earth/water duo I made for a SHUT sometime or another

3rd game was this life/light duo that is fun to play but completely stinks in PvP

for maximum weapon+shield destructing, I managed to take down his early grabby with lightning, and freeze the second one. first turn phoenix slowly won it for me.
I made this deck while his game was loading, so I didn't have a chance to playtest it. I also didn't realize I had put in 4 weapons  ::)

Got him down to eight hp in the first one, but he survived on the back of an antimattered abom, and lucky chaos seeds + early bolt draws

IDK, but maybe I could have won, if I had actually used the ups I had (I actually had 2 upped discords and 9 towers)

2 novae in starting hand, while SteppingStone has nothing to play on his first turn. I got a discord out on the second turn, but was deflagged when he got a nova out. Then he chained sundials with dune set up rather quickly. I totally have no chance with merely 2 stone pillars (which also being dealt with).

I played poison bolt, while Vineroz played flying adrenastaves / short bows.  Never drew an arsenic, but poison chipped away at his health, RoFs and fire bolts took out his flying weapons, and bolts finished him off.  I had a deflag in hand just in case he didn't fly a weapon.

I expected some sort of creature rush this game and decided to play a neurotoxin-pandemonium stall.  Vineroz got out an early discord, but I played a nova and due to scrambling was able to deflag his discord.  I eventually played a momentum'd dune scorp, my upped arsenic, and deflagged his lone earth pillar.  He evolved one graboid which pandemonium killed (while unfortunately BB'ing my scorp).  Eventually, he flew a trident and another discord to go along with a couple more graboids.  Sundial chains left me at 80 health for the win.

Didn't start with any Poison producers, but a hand with 2 Nova and a Fog Shield was enough to give me the upperhand here.  I was scared he would Silence chain me at the end and that Fog Shield wouldn't work its magic, but fortunately this did not happen.

Ran this the first game and just couldn't handle his 2 early phoenixes.  And when I got my first steam machine out, he rewound it and that was gg.  I was pretty far behind.

Thinking I'd probably see another rush of some kind, I switched to a deck with some heavier CC, but he swapped to a poison deck.  I face palmed as soon as I saw the death mark at the duel screen.  He got out an early chrysora and arsenic.  My one pendulum hand was a bad start, but even on a great draw the ever increasing poison probably would have gotten to me first.  Not to mention he must have had a bad draw... he was really low on quanta and had to discard a few turns in a row.

Drew 1 Nova the entire game, but fortunately his Discord was kind enough to give me 2 :fire on the first scramble to get rid of it forever.  His CC deck couldn't negate my Poison so I managed a win here.

Now this was funny.  Mirror match, he starts off without being able to play a thing from his hand, I managed to get out a Phoenix turn 1...and didn't manage to do much else.  I had a bunch of stuff in my hand that required 2 quanta to play, and without a 2nd Immo that made things impossible for me.  Ah well, such is the nature of Immo decks.

Game 3 - Win
Stall Faster! We had a wierd desynch about 3 turns before a win where we both saw the other play the exact same turn twice in a row. Resulting in a win for both of us. When we replayed, I snuck in some early damage with Fahren + Pheonix before Bonewall jumped in and then got 1 more Fahren hit a few turns later. He then chained Bonewalls such that I barely topdecked a 4th Bolt needed to win.

Game 2
I just love Aether's war legal NovaGrabby. While Fractix or vNG or Stall Faster is preferable, I could play this all day and not complain. I bolted the 2 creatures I saw and used a Silence to delay the appearence of others for a turn, but they didn't appear. oodles of quanta but nothing to play for poor vagman :\

I think they're referring to whether there was actually a desync or if nilsieboy left the game. I'm still waiting for a SS from nilsieboy, so this game is on hold for now.

Halfway through I drew my lobo, which allowed me to start taking care of his maxwell's demons. Then he dropped a Dissipation Shield, which allowed me to keep his quanta drained while I loboed the rest of the Maxwell's. Dim Shields kept me safe.

I dropped an Arsenic on turn 2, and just whittled him away with it. I lightning'd the dragon that he played, then I froze and BB'd the phoenixes he played. By the time he started to be able to deal damage, arsenic had done too much damage.

There's been a lot of weird server issues as of late (myself included).... so I'm unable to determine if nilsieboy actually left the game or if it glitched out some how. As it stands... he could have still forced a replay by decking himself... so my above ruling will stand. Play will continue with SteppingStone81 having a 1-0 lead.

Battle of aether grabows.  I drew a lot of quanta and lightnings, but only one graboid and no arsenic untill last turn.  On the bright side, I did get all my pendula and novas.

One question for organizers - in the third and final game, Napalm closed her browser window on turn 1.  Based on prior rulings in this event, it is apparently ok for people to close browser windows and leave games now, though?

If so, then:

I expected Napalm to play some combination of fire stall, aether war grabow, and fractix; she did.  I tried to build and play some counters; they failed.

Drew 5 aether pillars but no soul catchers.  No soul catchers until turn before I died, so I lose - only able to use a few viruses on some phoenixes, never enough quanta to play bone wall or fractal dragons.

I expected the aether war-legal grabow here and got it.  RTs to prevent Napalm from keeping graboids unburrowed (since silence is OP and lets graboids evolve then burrow to get around CC).  I only drew 3 golems, 1 SS, and zero graboids through first 17 cards, so I lost by one turn. (if I had drawn any of those and I would have won).

I expected fractix here and got it.  I tried building a counter with EQs, plagues, bone walls, and poisons.  In the first game, Napalm closed her browser window on turn 1, and I beat the AI.  We replayed, and I lost (silences prevented plagues / refreshing bone wall at critical juncture late in game).  I guess a better counter would have been a protected titanium shield + healing.

Game 2
I'm not going to lie. I got lucky this game. Went back to my new pet, Thundroids, as I have just now christened it!, and he went with a deck that SHOULD have countered it fairly effectively. He gave me a run for my money f'sure. Won by a single turn.

Game 3
He pulled out all the stops here. Straight up Bonewall/Plague/EQ. The one deck that I'm ALWAYS worried somebody is going to hit me with. Not sure if there was Stone Skins in there or not. All I know is... Fractix is win. Don't listen to kevkev. He'll try to tell you that "Fractix sucks." It's a lie! You just gotta build it right!

And to clarify... It was not an intentional closing of the tab. I had 3 Upgraded quanta sources in my opening hand, an Immo, an MP, and a Fractal. Leading to an AMAZINGLY early Fractal. No way in @#$% would I want to lose that hand. I was merely tabbing back and forth too quickly, and with 20+ tabs open at once, that "x" becomes bigger and bigger. Accidentally hit it :S

The AI would be absolutely and completely clueless on how to play this deck. My playstyle vs the AI's playstyle was very, very different. You yourself will have to admit this. So beating the AI is no real feat.

But if you want the score to revert to 2-1 and to continue on that's fine by me. It was an honest mistake, but I'd be happy to forfeit that game if it would make you feel better.

I am done with this event, and sick of opponents leaving games and closing windows.  Maybe time for a break from PvP events.

1 post accounts.... Don't wanna be annoying towards new players, but requiring certain amount of activity prior to joining a PvP event might not be a bad idea....

Turns out, I should have upgraded that Fog instead of a Pendy. 1 Nova initially every time, drew Fog all 3 games.
Game 3: Just had too slow of a start here, though 1 Nova didn't do me any favors
Game 4: 1 Nova, 4 Grabbies. You do the math.
Game 5: I just surrenedered when he mercilessly locked me down. Although with 2 Silences sitting in hand, it was probably smart not to let me silence chain him.
