A shield constructed of diamonds is of utmost value and the attacking horde of goblins would surely want to steal it. | An attacking horde's hunger would aim to catch and dine on some tasty squid and octopus. | | The squid and octopus guarding the diamonds are able to defend themselves by turning to STONE (Skin) - giving them power to absorb more of the goblin attack! | The diamonds are protected by this spell becoming untouchable by the encroaching goblins' greedy grubby hands. | Attacking goblins are reduced to dried up husks of their former selves once the Arctic defenders summon a DESICCATION spell! | | The defense against the oncoming Goblin Horde is led by the God of the Sea himself. |
StrategyFor this deck's stall approach to fending off invading goblins, the first priority is to play the 3 damage reduction
Diamond Shield (shiny!) and an
Arctic Squid/
Octopus (tasty!). These are key cards to prevent repeated small-attacks (shield) or single-source large-attacks (squid/octopus) from damaging your Hit Points. If early Permanent Control is expected or likely it is advisable to hold the shield until
Protect Artifact can be
played the same turn (mind that you need minimum 7 Earth quanta on-hand to play both cards on the same turn). Similar strategy may hold for squid/octopus if opponent lands an earlier, solo creature that will inhibit your squid/octopus from being usable - that is, hold until you can drop two squid/octopus to be able to gain the upper-hand on a lone opposing creature that stops a single-squid.
The
Desiccation and
Stone Skin are mid- to late-game plays with the former being used to kill opposing creatures to thin-out and reduce the opponent's quantity of attackers to within your squid's board-control range and the latter pushing your HP out in front of any ramp-up damage such as Arsenic, Physalia, or the like.
Poseidon, when deployed early, can cut the legs out from under the opponents before it gets going. Also, quanta destruction such as Poseidon is useful for limiting burst damage from sources like Fractal or quanta-bolts.
This deck's win condition is victory by deckout intended to represent how a siege or attack from goblins would be repelled until the oncoming forces were repelled or depleted. This is apparent in both screenshots from actual competition against AI3.
