You can also dilute the effect of five dead cards by making a larger deck. That has its own problems, but if you have 5/60 dead cards, it's less likely you'll get stuck with them than if you have 5/30 dead cards. These days, I'll build a deck around almost anything, though, and I try to make them as unique as possible without really caring how well they do, as long as they can do well enough not to drop out of the top 500. Mind you, I have the luxury of having played long enough that I own most of the upgraded cards, so I'm never stuck in a case where I can't make a deck around something due to lack of upped cards. I just like using the card and seeing how good (or bad!) of a deck I can make with whatever card.
