What do you think about Nintendo's new video game system, the Wii U?

Pro
1080p, Full HD system (who doesnt want to play Zelda HD?)
Tablet controller allows streaming to the console when tv isn't available
Full compatibility with all Wii controllers and attachments
Focusing on strong 3rd party support, and many 3rd parties have already pledged suport
Its Nintendo

Cons
Other consoles had HD for years
No gamecube controller support
No Dvd/Blu Ray playback
Wii U is arguably the stupidest name ever
Its Nintendo

The Unknown
Exact specs of the system
Online plan
Nintendo currently plans on only allowing 1 controller per system, but has said that it is considering allowing more

I lol'ed at these.

No gamecube support makes me sad - I always thought the Wiimote was way too clunky. Other than that I'm looking forward to what else Nintendo brings out.

I'm not much of a gamer.
In fact, I'm likely to be worse than many of your girlfriends at Playstations/Xboxes/Computer Games/Arcade Games/Elements.
But I kill at Wii Sports Tennis.

I don't own a wii myself, but I got into them so much that it became anti-social and ridiculous. I still fall off the edges of mario kart, I can't fly strate in sports resort, and basically screw up any game with instructions. But I have way more fun than being the catalyst for someone else to level up/do a kill streak/perform unnecessary and embarrassing dances over video games.

I get that some people thought they were useless, but I have never had so much fun with a screen.
I don't know much about The Wii U (I should probably look it up before embarrassing myself here), but with that brand name, it will reach out to people like me, especially if they market it right.
And if it has another wii sports/mario kart, I will migrate to the house of someone who does pay money for one of these things.

My thoughts, upon hearing the name. (
)

I honestly cannot see it going anywhere if it is limited to one controller/system.

I like the Wii a lot, i bought it just because its social gaming is the best and i can even play with my wife, wich would be impossible having a PS3 full of shooters. :P

Anyway, i dont like that Wii U system, and i think it will be a fail. The wiimote was a revolution, the new system is some kind of we-need-to-do-something-that-looks-new stuff.

Ha, on another forum I'm on, anytime someone posts about the WiiU someone replies with a picture of a police car or ambulance. I'm sure these comments are a complete surprise to the Japanese designers, since onomatopoeia is very cultural.

I voted "moderate hit." It's different enough that gear junkies will buy one just to have one. But I just don't see it being sustainable, especially since the games that have come out for the Wii just aren't compelling (Wii Sports and Wii Fit were phenoms beyond anyone's expectations, but what else has there really been?).

Also, I can't imagine people wanting to hold or carry the WiiU for more than a couple minutes at a time unless it weighs absolutely nothing.

Broke my original Wii around July (and my DS around August), so I've forgotten all about the fun of Wii and is probably why I went back to Elements. But the name is so stupid I'm not even going to try to get the Wii U

If you say "Wii U" loud enough you may sound like an ambulance.

You were sorta ninjad lol.

So, it is pretty much confirmed that it is more powerful than the 360 and ps3.

I voted "moderate hit." *snip* But I just don't see it being sustainable, especially since the games that have come out for the Wii just aren't compelling (Wii Sports and Wii Fit were phenoms beyond anyone's expectations, but what else has there really been?).

The games will be a lot better for the Wii U because it was built in a way that games can easily be ported (unlike the sloppy ports that the wii recieved), and it already has major 3rd party support.

Most people have said the Wii U controller is pretty light, especially compared to how it looks.

Well, these things would certainly be nice. It's always sad to see a worthy system die from lack of software, etc.

I think we're all agreed that it needs a new name, though. Even putting the siren noises aside -- it's not Wii University!
