Believe me, I'm more tired after playing 2 rounds of chess than I am playing 2 hours of football. The physical effect of chess is greatly underestimated.
Years ago we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, Bob Hope, and Steve Jobs. Now we have Obama, no hope, no cash, and no jobs.

Chess is not a sport. Sports requires one to be physical. If chess was a sport, might as well make chutes-and-ladders a sport. However, chess is played competitvely like sports.

Exactly. Any argument for chess as a valid sport could then be applied to virtually any intellectual task. Like the Spelling Bee on ESPN...

No, it isnt. Chess is a heavily contested board game. I used to play ridiclous amounts of chess matches with my dad. Ive only managed to beat him three times cause hes very good at it. lol
I dont fight in your silly wars. Im merely a poor deck builder trying to make his way through the game.

Doing this just for you  :P

If I sat down and played chess and said 'this is a sport!' then very soon I will become fat. I believe this answers the forum question. Chess should be more like a skill. Like people who are math teachers: tons of work involved...but not a sport. So, a lot of them actually have common sense to go do a sport to stay healthy like running. If chess is a sport, so is working at McDonalds.
My sport is your sport's punishment.

I do not consider mental acuity to be part of the definition. It is required to perform a sport, the the sport itself is as you quoted: requires physical exertion. A proper definition trainers and analysts are using today is: a strenuous exertion of physicality.
My sport is your sport's punishment.
