I'll be completely honest. As much as I HATE people that spam dimensional shields, they won me all 3 of my wins. Plain and simple, no way around that fact. Unupped Fractix can not hold water against another rush deck, for this reason, I will be eliminated shortly as long as people are packing those steals 'n deflags.
I had a pretty slow start. Only 2 pends. But I had both shields. He got out a lot of damage as I built up quanta through drawing more pends and some immolations, I played a shield that stopped him cold for 3 full turns, playing a fractal at 0, giving him 1 turn to hit me before my five pends and
mark could secure the phase shield. With 8 hp left, I prayed to Zanz he didn't have a deflag.
All the good starts in the world don't measure up to the power of a dim shield when your opponent does not have and permanent control. While I was not able to spam Phoenixes like I wanted, no shield cost me this match.
Again a great start without a shield, but this start was so great, only a "mid game" hAXx could save him, although I was 2 turns from winning when he played it, lol. His fog shield kept 3 of my pheonixes out, leaving him with 12 hp. Epically close match. Funny thing is, here I thought I'd already lost, lol. But I was quickly informed that it's best of 5. So much the better for me
So yeah... this match is likely the most epic match I've ever played. I drew only 1 pendulum to begin with and didn't get another for a few turns, but I drew several at that time. I built up quanta for a shield, then drew my single Tower (Yay for not upgrading the 6th Phoenix like everybody
knew I was going to!
) And thus had enough quanta to Fractal a turn sooner and get out 11 Minor Phoenixes with 1 turn left on the shield. He tried killing them off, but they just popped back up the last turn for the kill.
No hAXx shield here granted me the win, but that Tower is now a hero!
Hooray for comebacks! I thought I was in for another match like game 4, but I happened to go second and draw a second pendulum. 3 Minor Phoenixes and 2 Immolations were easy to play. I pulled out a shield early to stop his arsenic from building up on me here, I figured if I stalled at the end, that poison dmg could come back to bite me. Couple more immo's and a Fractal, coupled with the 12 dmg/turn early on, allowed me to win the 5th match fairly comfortably and claim that my Phoenixes love me more than asymmetry's do
All hail Minor Phoenixes! I think this might prove once and for all that Phoenixes love me more, lol. Now I just hope I don't have epic bad luck later
Great Games asymmetry. This was the most fun I've had since beating Octane with Fractix!
All of them were epically close, what an awesome set of 5 games to begin the sideboard tournament with, no?
P.S. Now I'm really hating the rule that says I have to show you my sideboard... All that work in turning Fractix to a Lava Rush with only 15 cards changed is pretty much pointless now
