Both  :fire :darkness and  :life :gravity would be balanced with lower Activation Costs.

Here are some baseline ideas for the remaining cards.

That ability is perfect for  :life :gravity. However it probably should cost 2|2 :life 5|4 :gravity.

http://www.sxc.hu is where i got the sand background. then i used http://pixlr.com/editor/ with different tool that it has. then i layered the icons on top of the sand image.


I started with water and light, then i decided to expand this concept to the other elements.
OldTrees and I thought it would good to go with first the opposites of the first idea.
OldTrees recommended the other combinations.

I think the 3rd picture is the best of the set. For the :earth :time card. My second pick would be the 2nd picture as a more realistic version.

The methodology was start with a combination [ :water-> :light]
Add the pair [ :fire-> :darkness]
Note that this is 2 combos from [ :air :earth :fire :water]->[ :darkness :death :life :light]
Decide to minimize the cards to 6 by having 2 cards for each combination of the 3 sets [ :air :earth :fire :water], [ :darkness :death :life :light] and [ :aether :entropy :gravity :time]

In hindsight alternating the direction [ :darkness-> :fire] would have been better but no ideas came to mind.
