Place a Genesis Counter on each creature you control.
Notes:
The first copy you play typically won't give a status effect bonus because the counter placement occurs -after-it checks for Genesis counters.
Mutation chance is 15% per creature.

target pillar becomes a creature.
card-pillar golem
stats vary, generates 1 :underworld quanta, quanta determined by type of pillar targeted ( :gravity pillar=gravity creature, so on and so forth)

The idea here, is basically to take an ancient shrine and it's power, and somehow 'reforge' the whole thing into a golem soldier of some sort.
Out with the old, in with the new, as I imagine the Cthonics say...
Something I must ask-why disinclude  :aether? The element seems to have 'lightning' as an aspect of it, seems to me like that would meld well with it.

Ent - sounds interesting and rather simple - if not dealt with in time auto-growth is very powerful in a stall, which allows the card to be a good finisher in various decks.
Reforge - Recycling pillars does sound very Cthonic, especially in the late game where they usuall generate excess quanta if you are not using Fractal or Bolts. The theme also fits well for Fire.

We are not including all 12 elements in the Core set to avoid stretching the theme just to cover everything in one go.
It is possible for the unused elements ( :death :aether :time ) to appear in a later series involving either or other factions.

The ever patient ghosts, growing with every generation of deaths, to feed their numbers, who wish to transform the cities of the Gaians and Cthonics into Necropolis (what's the plural of that word?) for their own use.
They call us dead? They don't even know what dwells beyond the veil separating us from them! Foolish children, thinking that matters of the corporeal are worthy of effort! They will all come to us in time, even if we watch, and wait, from beyond their enshackled mind's comprehensions, much less their 'physical' reach! They cannot kill us, only disperse the energies that we use to assist them to joining us.
We, are the Inevitable fate of all things, though the transitory mortals seem to prefer to call us nihi (Nihis is the plural form of that name.)

Basically, you can stack counters for increased durability, but the point is to use the counters to create more and more swarms until you overwhelm the opponent with weight of numbers.

I figure the earth creature, can be something that becomes more dangerous as genesis counters are added, and be the 'generals/leaders' to the swarming ever spawning expendable life soldiers.
Basically, think of the gaurdians as the 'chieftains' while the swam represents the common soldier.

As a sidenote - :death :aether :time can appear in Gaian/Cthonic (I personally see :death as mostly Gaian, :aether as mostly Cthonic, and :time being able to fit in either depending on the theme.)

Having future factions like the Nihils might also be interesting in a later expansion.

Cards 7 and 8 have been finalized! As of this post, Gaian vs. Cthonic now has 50% of its cards done.
Special thanks to the ETG chat users who helped really shape out what the Spawn and Hatch concepts are supposed to look like.

for a week and a half, I logged into the sync.in site, at various times of day. not a single post, no discussion here, no back n forth. now suddenly two cards are just 'done' out of nowhere with no warning. this is broken. random people are just deciding what is a card and what isnt. Im done. There is no community here. Just some people arbitrarily deciding which is and isnt a card at their whim, at random times of their choosing. you have completely alienated me from the event. good luck.

Before I begin, I’d like to apologize to everyone involved in GvC for my impatience in finalizing 7/16 and 8/16. More people should’ve discussed these cards before they appeared in the actual OP.

To explain:

1) I was away for a while as I noted on my profile, which resulted in a lack of activity and a lack of communication.   

2) I found it was very difficult to invite people to the sync.in board because people were worried about being committed to working on the entire set of cards or just being annoyed by the whole 'series'/'faction' concept in general. So somewhere along the line, I began tossing little ‘snapshots’ of the card into chat without any mention of Gaian/Cthonic into chat, hoping I’d get more input. Snapshots turned into balance discussions and theme development, and soon I found that ETG chat users were a very reliable source of feedback. I decided to start having a ‘balanced’ mix of feedback, using the sync.in board and ETG chat as both feedback sources

3) This is where point 1) comes in. I’d been wanting to do something EtG related when I returned to the forums. The most readily available option, as I saw it, was to continue where we’d left off to Gaian vs. Cthonic, and I thought it’d be nice to just take some of the latest suggested designs on the thread and put them into chat. This was all well and good, but I was impatient and too willing to ‘run away’ with the considerably good designs chat users happened to make. (In hindsight Cards 7 and 8 needed at least a theme double check before they were posted).  As a result I finalized two cards without realizing I should’ve asked several more people (at the least, whoever had already been involved with Gaian vs. Cthonic), which has resulted in a few people being understandably angry.

4) As a result, cards 7/16 and 8/16 are NOT finalized, due to their questionable status of completion. I apologize to anyone I’ve offended and will avoid pushing ahead too quickly in the future. Suggestions on card 9/16 are still accepted but 7/16 and 8/16 will be undergoing a bit of review. Cards 7 and 8 are also now back up at http://sync.in/CIPGaianvsCthonic for discussion.

EDIT : After some changes and discussion, Ooze Pool and Roc Egg have been refinalized as cards #7 and #8. Card #9 is back under development at http://sync.in/CIPGaianvsCthonic .

If brought against each other in battle, you may notice similarities in their fight style. They may be even from the same family, possibly brothers.

Notes: Since Cthonic is likely to be  throwing a lot of stat debuffs around on its own creatures and triggering off destroyed things chances are there will need to be 'fodder' for the debuffing and sacrificing. That's where cards like these come in, to be  beatsticks in some cases and sacrifice/debuff fodder for other Cthonic cards.

The fountain used to give little more than a small trickle of water. As a village was built around it, though, it sprung back to life. The water is gives is very clean and pure of any taint, as if the things dropped in it weren't there. - Gia, Forge Overseer

Having counters (E.g. Poison) on a creature is treated as a 'status effect'. For a faction that uses counters, this creates a lot of synergy.
