The isn't much Science on Darkness, but I did find this: http://www.muskokaheritage.org/ecology-night/scotobiology-article.asp

We may need to create our own science behind each element in the game, but at the same time keep some aspect of the REAL world science.
If you are trying to build a physics of the ETG world then the science of the REAL world has little to offer. A earlier (greek) explanation of the world is closer to what the elements in ETG are. Darkness(ETG)  is not darkness (REAL world).

The best forum member I know of to help develop the Science of ETG is Bloodshadow. He does use many aspects of real world Science/Physics. He thought of much of the concepts needed for the 12 Realms story with the assistance of Nepycros.
