1. SIGN-UPSTo sign-up, post on the separate sign-up topic.- Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event.
- Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic.
- If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.
Once you sign up, select three Elements for your vault.
2. THE VAULTSelect three Elements for your vault. Message your three Elements to RootRanger- Your vault will consist of all the cards in those three Elements and "Other", except for Pillars, Pendulums, Mark Cards, and banned cards.
- Discord, Bone Wall, Shard of Freedom, Ghost of the Past, Devourer, and Dimensional Shield are banned.
- Shards (except for Shard of Freedom) and Nymphs are allowed, and they will be included in your vault.
Once Sign-Ups end, I will post all of the vaults in a separate thread. Vaults will be made public as soon as the event begins. Players who neglect to send me three Elements will have their choices randomized.
Spoiler for Example:
Bob selects Entropy, Death, and Gravity. This is what his vault looks like.

3. PREPARATIONSelect up to 9 cards from your vault to sacrifice. Message your cards to RootRanger.- For each card you sacrifice, you may use two upgrades in the following round. This applies to every duel in the match.
- Cards that are sacrificed are permanently removed from the vault. They may not be used for the rest of the event.
- Sacrifices are made public and vaults are updated at the end of the Preparation phase.
- You are not required to make a sacrifice. Players who do not send me a message will not sacrifice any cards, and they will not be able to use any upgrades the following round.
- If you do not expect to be able to play the next round, you may send a PM to
RootRanger to indicate that you would like to forfeit the round. If you choose to forfeit, you will be excluded from the pairings, and you will receive a 0-0 loss. The advantage of forfeiting is that you can skip a round or two without disturbing the event.
- Any actions in the Preparation phase, including forfeiting a future round, can be done as soon as you like. For example, if you decide you would like to sacrifice 9 cards in Round 2, you may send that PM to me as early as you like.
Preparation lasts 24 hours and occurs after the end of the previous round and before the beginning of the following round.
Spoiler for Example:
Bob sacrifices Dagger, Maxwell's Demon, Bone Dragon, and Grey Nymph. These cards are permanently removed from his vault, which is shown below. In Round 1, Bob can use 8 upgrades each duel (2 for each card he sacrificed). Bob does not retain his 8 upgrades for Round 2. In order to use any upgrades in Round 2, Bob needs to sacrifice more cards in the next Preparation phase.

4. PAIRINGSPlayers who make larger sacrifices are paired against those who make smaller sacrifices.- First, players are "seeded" based on how many sacrifices they made in the previous preparation phase. If multiple players made the same sacrifice, their order is determined by how many cards they have in their vault. If multiple players made the same sacrifice and have the same number of cards in their vault, their order is determined randomly.
- If there are an odd number of players, the lowest seed becomes a "bye." This means the highest seed - or the player who made the largest sacrifice for that round - gets a free win.
- The highest seed is matched against the lowest seed that he has not yet played. The second highest seed is matched against the unmatched seed that he has not played. The third seed is matched against the lowest unmatched seed that he has not played. This continues until everyone has an opponent.
- It is possible, especially in the later rounds of the game, that one player has already played against everyone else still left in the event. In this case, that player will simply play someone who he has already played.
It's simple; just play the person who you're matched up against. Making a larger sacrifice gives you a better chance of playing someone who made a smaller sacrifice.
Spoiler for Example:
It's Round 2, and there are 11 players in the event. They are ordered from 1 to 11 below. In the previous round, Abed had a bye, Brad played God, Chad played Jed, Dad played Fred, Ed played Kid, and Hod played Id.
Abed - Sacrifice: 9, Vault: 36
Brad - Sacrifice: 8, Vault: 44
Chad - Sacrifice: 8, Vault: 38
Dad - Sacrifice: 6, Vault: 46
Ed - Sacrifice: 6, Vault: 43
Fred - Sacrifice: 5, Vault: 43
God - Sacrifice: 4, Vault: 42
Hod - Sacrifice: 3, Vault: 45
Id - Sacrifice: 2, Vault: 49
Jed - Sacrifice: 0, Vault: 54
Kid - Sacrifice: 0, Vault: 51
Abed matches up against Kid, because Kid is the lowest seed and Abed has already had a bye. Brad, being the second-highest seed, gets a bye. Chad plays Id, because Chad has already played Jed. Dad plays Jed, who is the lowest unmatched player. Ed plays Hod, and Fred plays God.
5. MATCHESMatches are best-of-five. The first player who wins 3 individual duels, wins the match.- Players have 6 days to make the fight happen. They must contact their opponent using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both.
- If the fight doesn't happen, both players lose by default, unless one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time.
- You may only use cards from your Vault, in addition to Pillars, Pendulums, and Mark Cards. You may use any mark.
- You may use two upgraded cards for each sacrifice you made in the previous Preparation phase.
- You may change your deck during the match. If the match lasts 5 games, you are allowed to use up to 5 different decks, as long as they are all legal.
After duels, all players must submit their results and decks in the "Battle Results" thread.
6. RANKINGSPlayers are ranked by the number of individual duels they have won.- It is better to lose 2-3 than it is to lose 1-3 or lose 0-3.
- A "bye" is considered a 3-0 win, and you are awarded with three points.
- If a player wins because his or her opponent was unable to play the match, it is counted as a 3-0 win by forfeit. Players who win by forfeit may not be awarded a bye in future rounds.
- If multiple players have the same number of wins, their order is determined by the number of losses (fewer is better), then by the total number of wins of all of their opponents, then by the total number of losses of all of their opponents.
- When there are 4 players left, winning a match is worth an additional 0.25 points. When there are 2 players left, winning a match is worth an additional 0.5 points.
7. ELIMINATIONThe lowest ranking players will be eliminated.- Players are not eliminated until after the first three rounds.
- The number of players left after each round depends on how many players signed up.
- After Round 3, there will be from 10-20 players left.
- After Round 4, there will be from 8-12 players left.
- After Round 5, there will be from 6-8 players left.
- After Round 6, there will be 4 players left.
- After Round 7, there will be 2 players left.
At the end of Round 8, the highest ranking player is declared the winner, and the second highest ranking player finishes in second place.
