MATCHES
Jen-i (18) vs Odii Odsen (6)
dragonsdemesne (18) vs Zawadx (8)
theelkspeaks (18) vs Submachine (8)
mrpaper (12) vs Afdarenty (8)
CCCombobreaker (12) vs treebeard xiii (10)
Kakerlake (10) vs justaburd (10)

Matches are best-of-five. The first player who wins 3 individual duels, wins the match.
- Players have (almost) 6 days to make the fight happen. They must contact their opponent using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both.
- If the fight doesn't happen, both players lose by default, unless one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time.
- You may only use cards from your Vault, in addition to Pillars, Pendulums, and Mark Cards. You may use any mark.
- The number after your name represents the number of upgrades you may use. These upgrades apply to every deck you play this round.
- You may change your deck during the match. If the match lasts 5 games, you are allowed to use up to 5 different decks, as long as they are all legal.

After duels, all players must submit their results and decks to this thread.

The intense match between Submachine and Jen-i ended with a 3-2 victory for Submachine, meaning he maintains a flawless 4-0 match record. Jen-i was actually on the verge of elimination, starting the match at 0-2. A single more loss would have ended the whole event for Jen-i, but he pulled through to win the next two games. He currently sits in 3rd place, with 2nd place belonging to Submachine. In 1st place is CCCombobreaker, who scored an impressive 3-0 victory against Afdarenty, who has now fallen from 3rd place to 8th. While CCCombobreaker is certain to advance to Round 6, his aggressive Sacrifices have cut his vault down to just 22 cards. Will his strategy pay off?

Meanwhile, theelkspeaks seems to be making a solid comeback. His first two rounds ended in losses against mrpaper and Afdarenty, but theelkspeaks then won the next two rounds, allowing him to scrape by with a 9-9 record. However, it could have all been over had some of the other games gone differently. If he had lost his final game against Dm1321, it would have been Dm1321 advancing instead of theelkspeaks. If Kuroaitou had lost his final game against DANIEELA, then DANIEELA would have moved on to the next round with a 3-2 victory, while theelkspeaks would have been cut. Lastly, if justaburd had lost his final game against Spielkind, then Spielkind would slip into 12th place with a 3-2 victory, and theelkspeaks would have ended up in 13th. Amazingly, theelkspeaks has now cheated death not once, not twice, but three times! Can anyone eliminate him?

Only CCCombobreaker and Submachine are certain to advance to Round 6; the rest of the players could be eliminated if they lose. There have been 3 Sacrifices of 9 cards, 9 Sacrifices of 3 cards or more, and even an unintentional chiasmus! It's quite an exciting round indeed.

CCCombobreaker 1 - 3 treebeard_xiii

ggs treebeard, you brought some good decks.

Spoiler for Game 1: 1-0:
Standard mini-firestall.  His entropy deck didn't put out much damage early and I deflagged his shield to get some big farenheit hits in.

Spoiler for Game 2: 1-1:
Decided to switch it up, and I felt he had little answer for fractix.  Turns out even with a great quanta start, 2 miracles was enough of an answer.

Spoiler for Game 3: 1-2:
Tree brought the right deck, but I had a feeling I had more fractals than he had dessications, and I only needed 6 RoLs out at a time.  Played it safe off the first fractal.  Then a dessication, then I got greedy and played all 5 RoLs I had left a turn before I could fractal because he had an empty hand and I wanted to mitigate an extra 4 damage when I was at 60 health (facepalm).  He top decked the second dessication, and I didn't draw any more RoLs before GG.

Spoiler for Game 4:1-3:
Got a pendulum heavy start so I was a little slow racking up fire quanta.  Found the first farenheit with 10 cards left in my deck and 21 poison on me.  I had 1 miracle, but he had Divinitied twice and I just couldn't finish him off before I succumbed.

treebeard xiii 3-1 CCCombobreaker

ggs shame about some bad rng but you still played well considering your vault compared to mine.

Spoiler for games:
game 1 monopony vs firestall

lost, I drew a more stally hand against a more stall focused deck I simply couldn't put out the damage.

game 2
monolight vs fractix

won, when i saw his draw i thought gg immediately fractix vs monolight I felt wasn't in my favour however two first had miracles and an early sod gave me plenty of survivability and drawing heavy quanta after my initial couple of hands meant miracles were easy to play.

game 3
monowater vs rol/hope

Deck import code : [Select]

this was a hard match-up for CCC even without him getting greedy early sword and toadfish started slugging away along came the first fractal followed immediately by hope out goes the first dessi. i got a turn of hitting in before another hope wall, woops dessi top deck and CCC had gotten greedy and played all his rays in his hand and that was game nymphs appearing left right and centre not even his early light nymph could heal him up.

game 4
speed poison weird duo vs firestall.

I got a sluggish draw but it picked up quickly however his fahren hid and my soaras were unloading poison every turn one miracle wasn't enough and i was glad i double shielded as an early mirror from CCC meant my mirror was useless, a permafrost came later but by the time fahren was down it was slugging too hard and it was too late with 20 odd poison counters before his first fahren he was out. (thanks RNG) I built this deck to counter the mono aether I expected and a soft counter to the rest of his decks except firestall.

again ggs and good luck CCC you may get your revenge next round.
love makin my decks unusual if able. Chaos and luck are widely regarded as different i beg to differ just refer to :entropy but for those in the know also refer to :time and :death.

Early des took out a golem and a bolt helped me with the next one. Kept my squids piled in hand and only played one at a time, this proved to be a good strategy as justaburd had 3 RoFs and rained my squids one after the other down. Luckily he didn't draw much more damage so his 2 lone chickens faces off my dragons. A well chosen name for my deck =)
Spoiler for Screen or it didn't happen!:

Not exactly my best prediction, but apparantly the deck still works.
4 pillars for me in starting hand let me pour out an auburn nymph and soon after a protected pulvy.
Justaburd didn't just watch by the side, but his fahren didn't stand a chance and my bolted nymph was soon replaced by another one, no chance for him.

The first time I found the match, I had a perfect hand, with this one, I would have easily won.
Spoiler for Screen or it didn't happen!:
Sadly, RNG decided you can't have an early arsenic twice in a match... so she put it into the 3rd last card of my deck. And the poison in the 2nd last. Srsly? y u b so mean?
Didn't stand a chance with my random creature rush like this.
Spoiler for Screen or it didn't happen!:

he got a 1 pillar draw, I got an early pulvy. poured also a couple golems out to keep his quanta at a neat 0.
pulvy wasn't able to smash anything though, as it was frozen by the first bolt. and the second. and the third. wtf? o.O I usually need 4 bolts to freeze just once. RNG is such an evil troll <3
won thanks to the couple BB's that froze his squids.
Spoiler for Screen or it didn't happen!:

great games justaburd, thanks for the matches!

This deck would've survived most of Dragon's matchups, and was prolly my best bet versus this particular deck. Sadly RNG made my first RoL my 16th card, and I was beaten to a pulp

It was a great run, Sacrifice, and I must say I never expected to survive for so long. I wish the best of luck to all surviving.

GGs.  Glad to play against you again, and good luck in future events.

Only chance I had in this matchup (rol/hope) was to beat him to death before he got a strong enough hope out.  I got him to 56 and then hope was too big.  I topdecked miracles #2 and #3 literally on the turn I was going to die, and thus got him down to 8 cards in deck before I lost.  Had I been packing six miracles (and drawn them) I -might- have won this one.  Maybe.  (I did have 4 in the original version, but cut one for an extra dragon...)  I never got any of my nymphs all game, and they might've helped, since Zawadx never got a lobo until really late, but it was quite literally a (topdecked) miracle (x2) that I lasted as long as I did in this game.

Game 2: WIN

Spammed rush pretty well, had just the right amount of quanta to play everything as I got it.  Almost got an EM, but on the last turn Zawadx played a crimson dragon and cloned it twice.  He didn't draw any CC all game, but I think I had a pretty good chance in this matchup, though it was by no means guaranteed, particularly if he had a lot more CC than his rng would suggest he did.

Game 3 and Game 4: WIN and WIN.

Game 3: I just about have a heart attack... my opening draw has 2 sundials and no quanta... My first two draws are death pend and light pillar, though, so I get rolling anyway, and mirror shield comes up about 4-5 turns in.  (he's using psiontal)  We desync and AI suicides into my mirror shield.  Zawadx lobos his psions, and makes a far better match of it on his end, but miracle sealed the deal for me.  (he thought my AI topdecked it, but I had one in my opening hand)

Game 4: I get a great draw, and Zawadx has a terrible one.  On about turn 8, I discover he's playing rol/hope when he plays RoL and fractals it; up to this point, I thought he was playing psiontal again and afraid of my mirror shield.  Zawadx's power gets cut, and I play AI.  He never draws any dragons, and I had tons of stall anyway and could have won by deckout, but poison finished him off despite a midgame miracle by him.

Spoiler for Game #1 = Grabby Rush vs Mono Fire Stall = WIN:

Great draw for me - just lots of quanta for him, which is good because I drew no CC until late.
He deflagged my only time pend, but I had 3 Golems in my opening hand, too much resistant damage to overcome.

Spoiler for Game #2 = SoP Pulverizing Wardens vs Mono Fire Rush = LOSS:

I was worried about the ill-conceived idea of running effectively a trio quanta-base. But it seemed to have worked pretty well. However, this was a bad match-up for me, only the fact that I got some solid top-decks and had a decent hand (oh and a crap ton of upgrades) allowed me to make the game close. I got him down to 24 damage which would have given me an exact damage kill on the next turn. But that fire rush was tooo fast.

Spoiler for Game #3 = Mono Water Frozen Zerg vs Mono Fire Rush = WIN:

Opening hand had me a little worried, with only 3 quanta, but I just kept top-decking more. Two Freezes on my opening hand allowed me to deal with his Seraphs which otherwise would have made the game too close for comfort.

Spoiler for Game #4 = Mono Light Rush vs Diving Sky Dragons = WIN:

This likely should have been a bad match up for me, but he drew only 2 quanta and his Fog epically failed, blocking 2 of 1 of 12 attacks iirc.

theelkspeaks 3-2 Submachine

I prepared 3 decks for this matchup, played all 3, and only one got me a win.  A lot of RNG in this series, but well played Submachine.  Sorry about those shield hax :(.

Game 1: Chargetal vs. Faren Rush
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
55k 55k 55k 55k 55p 576 576 61q 61q 61q 622 622 744 745 745 745 745 745 745 749 749 75m 75m 75m 80i 80i 80i 81q 81q 81q 8pu

Had a draw just a little low on :gravity quanta, and Sub had a high quanta hand.  Was able to bolt me to death before I posed any real threat.

Game 2: Toadfish NT vs. Crawler NT
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5i4 5i4 5i7 5i7 5i7 5i7 5ie 5ie 5ie 5ie 5jm 5jm 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gp 7gp 7h0 7h0 7h0 7h0 7h0 7i6 7i6 7i6 7i6 7i6 7i6 8pp

The upgraded advantage largely won me this one, and I had a pretty solid draw.

Game 3: Toadfish NT vs. Crawler NT, again

This one was a lot worse draw than the first, but my Permafrost shield froze his nymphs on play, which shut his chances to win away.

Game 4: Psiontal vs. Faren Rush
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
61o 61o 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 622 622 63a 63a 808 808 808 808 808 80i 80i 80i 80l 80l 80l 80l 80l 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 8pu

Nope.  Misplayed badly (played second and last psion in my hand early taking a gamble he was short on CC and losing the bet).  Took too long to draw a 3rd and fractal it, and lost by a turn as a result.

Game 5: Toadfish NT vs. Trident NT

I had a 1 quanta draw, he had an all quanta draw.  Brutal luck for both of us, as he struggled to find any cards to use his quanta on, while I struggled to play my cards, especially with Trident nomming my pillars.  Eventually stole a win thanks to freeze hacks from my shield, and drawing all 4 of my freezes early to stop the "bacteria rush"
