Thanks for the tense and enjoyable matches, RootRanger! You kept me on my toes and I never knew who would win a round until the very last moment due to the steals and fractals from either side. Definitely one of my favorite matches in this War.
I've tested so many
decks against so many
possibilities during the week, and I've told my team that if I were death I would take a darkness duo against me... so when I saw the mark I knew I was in for some tough games. We've started with quite a few desyncs, but after a couple of tries we finally got it going. Of course I couldn't play out the desyncs because the AI is too dumb and, being true to its AI preferences, it would always steal my eternity and leave the shields untouched.
0-1: I had an ok hand, and soon started my dim chain. I played my dragon as soon as possible to get his health down fast, and for a moment I thought I could win. Unfortunately the steal came, followed by a ton of creatures and a nightmare to make things worse. The hand full of mummies didn't allow me to either fractal or draw fast enough with HG. I managed to play another dim eventually, but it got stolen again for the killing blow.
1-1: A nice starting hand let me play an early HG and start my chain. I got to play my other 2 HGs and started drawing like crazy looking for my critters, when I eventually found my dragon, but was met my a pesky dusk shield. I didn't have enough quanta to fractal my dragon and keep the chain, and the dusk didn't allow me risk a fractal and leave myself exposed to the creatures RR was keeping hidden in hand, so I kept attacking with my lone dragon and missing a lot, while RR health wasn't going much down. I was left with only 4 cards in my deck, and I began to honestly worry about RR stealing my Eternity to try to deck me, so when I did find my ghost in my next draw, I started rewinding it while letting my dragon get his health down some more. After 3 rewinds I had enough quanta to play a small ghost army, which I felt would be enough for a 2 turn kill. I didn't play my last shield, since stealing it was exactly what RR would need. I attacked once and of course got hit by a ton of recluses and mummies in return, but it wasn't enough to take me down, and my second attack did the trick.
2-1: RR had a very fast start and took a good chunk of my health before I could start my chain. That got me worried, since it left me vulnerable in case of steal. Fortunately I got my Eternity, which allowed me to rewind his critters and gain some time to amass quanta and find my gotp. Since I saw no signs of the duck, I fractalled as soon as possible, even though it broke my chain. RR didn't have enough critters to take advantage of this opening and also didn't get a duck, so in 2 turns the small ghost army did its job.
3-1: I had a very odd hand with lots of pillars but few pends. I also got a good, early Eternity, but my HGs apparently decided to hide from me, so I was worried if I would be able to keep the chain going without the extra draw power. I soon played a dragon, but RR got to play the dreaded duck/dagger combo. I was raging since my dragon (and later my gotp) would make this match very easy if the dusk wouldn't block them all the time. I was down to 12 cards and incredibly no HG showed up, but that meant I got to draw through a lot of my pillars and had lots and lots of quanta. When RR eventually stole my shield, I took one big hit which took me down to 6 hp iirc, but I was able to begin my chain again and knew I had an opening to fractal my gotp as soon as the stolen shield expired. While I waited, I kept some pillars, pends and other cards in hand to avoid dying from nightmare. Right when RR's dim vanished, I played all my cards, fractalled my ghosts and did enough damage to finish the game.
Thanks again for the great matches, RootRanger. Loosing to
here would be terrible for us, and I'm really glad I got to break my unlucky streak of 2 losses in the last 2 rounds.
