When i saw the minor phoenix getting cremated on the field, i knew i was right, which got me pretty scared actually. I decided to use the one quint i had in hand on his phoenix, so he couldn't fractal that one, which turned out to be a right decision that probably won me the game. Next turn used fractal on his spark. Game still could have gone either way. He used a deflag on my fog shield, and never drew another one to destroy my dim shield, which would have sealed it for me.

2nd game: He had 2 deflags in hand when i decided to start chaining dim shields. He also knew not to play phoenix now before he could fractal it. Pretty easy win for him.

3rd game: He started with no pendulums, which was just too much of a bad draw. He would still win if his deck was kind enough to pop more than 1 deflag into his hand. I was pretty lucky this time.

Let me start off by saying those were the best played matches I've had this war; Dogg is pro.

1st game I had a great starting hand, was about to fractal a minor phoenix and take off and dogg quinted my phoenix.  That essentially slowed me by 4-5 turns till I drew another.  I was able to get dogg down to otk range, but never drew my last deflag before his dragon beat me up.

2nd game I started with a cluttered hand, but had 1 deflag in hand and drew the 2nd early.  Due to my hand I had to fractal an ash which turned out to be the game winning move.  With my 2 deflag I was able to kill his 2 dim shields and won pretty easily.

3rd game I had an interesting draw, I had 3 immos and 2 sparks, but no pendulums  I sat for turns waiting to fractal from my mark while he built up quanta.  I got fractal and finally got a field of phoenix's.  With the first 2 deflag, I got him down to ~ 20 hp, but never drew the last deflag before I died.

These games were all epic.  We were sweating every draw wondering if would be a deflag.

That was a slick move.  Great job adapting your deck to the circumstances.

Wow, this looks like it was an interesting fight. I'm also impressed with Dogg's tactics ... and you should bank a strategy compliment from jmdt ... that's high praise.

I hope this doesn't mean team Fire has extra wrath for us later in the round. :|

That he did.  Made me terrified to play my phoenix's the last 2 games before I could use fractal.  The quint threat slowed my deck down considerably.

Early in team discussions we reviewed using quint to block fractal target (or BE), but our trouble was never knowing for sure who would use fractal.  And if you make the wrong call, you have a bunch of dead cards slowing you down.  (Also, we considered the tactic a one-trick pony since the opponent won't make that mistake twice.)  jmdt ran into the problem of having only 3 creatures (or fewer) to fractal--each one is precious as you may not find the second one till its too late.
