Given how three teams independently made EC errors, I think the EC restriction simply was not clear enough to understand. Perhaps the cards penalties in addition to using more Relics -for the same amount of upgrades this round- is a bit harsh?

Also, we only avoided a pen out of luck that we happened to abide by it.

Just charge relics to make up the numbers this time, and maybe reword the SEC to make it clearer. Further card penalty when there are 2 other (more likely imo) interpretations of the SEC is unnecessary imo.

The way it was worded made it very easy to misinterpret for non-native english speakers. At first I thought you could only get 50% extra upgrades, so 3/2 of your normal upgrade amount in a deck. Then I thought it's just max half the deck upgraded. Then JCJ explained that it's just not more than 50% of your upgrades can come from the SEC.

Both asd and I have discussed the penalty issues, and after noting all the comments here and in the Round 5 thread we have agreed due to potential misinterpretation and lack of clarity the fault is on us. We are willing to leave the cost of the relics needed to field the decks as the only cost for those teams which were penalized for using a different interpretation of the rules, instead of adding in the additional card penalty on top of the relics.
