The sky above the Tenebrian Sea was painted in pink and blue. This was not an unusual occurrence; any child elemental could tell you that the sky was blue! And the dawns and dusks of the region always had this wonderful shade of pink, an unofficial favorite of the dark-inclined inhabitants of the isles which dotted the sea. But on this day, the reason for the sky being blue and for the sky being pink was rather different. It was noontime, and there was no good reason for the sky to hold pink!
Bellowing a challenge, an amethyst dragon descended, raking its claws upon the feeble minor vampires defending the island. Time after time, the mighty dragon advanced. Time after time, the vampires retreated. The forces of chaos and
had invaded the isles, spreading pandemonium wherever they went!
"Oh no! The vampires are retreating!" cried one young devourer.
"We're doomed! Please sir, let us go help!" the crowd of devourers swarmed testily, pushing against the edges of the burrow.
"Have patience, young burrowers." replied his elder. "Haste will not avail you, for you are small, and weak, and powerless. There is no shame in admitting weakness. Now hold on a moment!" The elder raised a leg to silence the group of young pests' impending protests. "This doesn't mean we don't have a plan! Every minute they spend blasting apart the island looking for us is a minute they we are able to grow stronger! You already feel it yourself, don't you? You were small, and weak, and powerless. But now you are not so small, not so weak, and not so powerless. And soon, each and every one of you and our vampire brothers will be more than a match even for the strongest of those dragons!
Placated, the young pests waited. They waited, and waited, and waited. "Soon," the elder warned. "Soon™." More waiting. Waves of chaos struck the burrow, dealing damage to those hidden within. Still, they waited.
Finally, the elder lowered his appendages. "The time is now. You are all ready. GO!" The pack of devourers charged from the burrow, letting out loud clicks and screeches as they caught sight of a dragon and a small group of vampires. Roaring, the dragon raised its head, releasing a flurry of chaos seeds from its mouth. The charging wave stumbled, but did not stop. Some had fallen, and some were bruised. Some found themselves emerging from their eggs for the first time in their lives... again. Not one of the incoming wave was unaffected.
But the elder was right! They were no longer small, insignificant creatures. They were strong, mighty, and powerful. They gave out battle cries of their own, and attacked!
The islands of the Tenebrian Sea roared on the day of pink skies.
