Maybe that did it. I had a little better luck than icb did, and those reverse times were not enough to stop the army of fireeaters.
He used a relatively weak deck containing bone dragons, arsenics, and RTs. Rage pots perfectly countered the dragons with exactly 5 hp, and deflags for arsenics.
Round 1 - Win
Pretty much perfect draw. icb started with tons of pillars too and took out dragons early, but my initial hand had 4 rage pots already. Got out lots of fireeaters, used rage pot on an armagio, which all slowly ate up his HP.
Round 2 - Loss
Blew up an arsenic but another came out. Also the lack of fire quanta (only one pendulum) slowed me down.
Round 3 - Win
Another decent draw with better fire sources and fireeaters. icb managed to RT some of the grown fireeaters, but I had four out and tried to balance out the firepower and kept the damage going on.
I started the final battle of Trial of Gravity with 4 consecutive losses, but came back with 5 wins afterwards. I hope that this win becomes the start of another miracle like that...
