Play with a wrong deck, you get a loss. Correcting minor mistakes is acceptable before the match with a minor penalty to make it eligible for the match. But that's it.
If you actually play with a wrong deck, you should get a loss for the played game. Tool is there to help the teams, not to be used as an excuse to get away with wrongful deck building.

If the match is to be replayed, I suggest applying minor penalty to the winner, like 3 cards. The loser would have lost the regular discard amount anyway, so no penalties to the loser.

This. Not to be mean or anything but it's the precident this sets. "But THEY got to just fix it and replay the match"..
I dunno, im less aggy than I was last night so whatever, just trying to avoid future drama when thd stakes are higher

I'll offer a rematch with both teams using correct decks. If there's backlash against that, then I'll just give both teams discards.

we didn't change the sideboard upgrades on the gdocs, nor did we catch this.

Back in the day we didn't have a tool checking for deck legality. If you for examaple used one to many upgrades or was one card away from 50% in element you always got a penalty of 3 cards ( minor penalty )and auto loss. Imo those rules were way to harsh and was therefore changed war 10#? something

I would have ruled. Loss for gravity with full discard + minor penalty. Minor penalty for life. Replay.

There's no way not to get a penalty for playing illegal decks. Only replay is to soft and could even be abused.

I know decision making is hard and understand the position of the WMs.

the tool isn't an helper or something, u are forced to submit decks with it, u can't pm or post them in private forum using the [deck.][/deck] thing; if the tool is broken and u use an illegal deck, u have no fault

In the past, we have often submitted decks to the tool which gave a "bad deck" error but it was actually correct deck due to temporary rules such as event cards as we were told by the WMs. Also there were times when we had to post decks on our secret sections as enforced by the WMs (again due to special conditions).
Unless stated otherwise, you should submit decks with the tool. But it has never been the center of everything. It helps teams and the wms. It is not some sort of a deity. War is governed by the WMs and also by the common sense.

As i mentioned in chat:

WM's decide that both teams lose this round THUS SUFFER DISCARDS, but suffer no EXTRA discards FROM PENALTY.

Fixed this is a way that would have made it a good ruling. Not liking the replay, at least not without penalty for the winning team. It might also delay the event.
When other elements show up with an illegal deck, they also lose cards in some way.

I see two options:

either
- 3 card penalty for Life (discard from vault)
or
- no salvage

To be honest it would not really matter if I play with 8 or 5 ups there. Its still against the rules though, so a little punishment is fine.
Let's see how WM's will decide (maybe they already did and I missed it). And sorry for playing an "illegal" deck, guys.

Edit: Sorry my bad, there is still time. But given there was backlash after all I suppose the both discard ruling applies?
