He didn't need to. I took out 3 creatures with a single Fire Storm in game 1, but I still lost. He had more than enough damage to topple me.

That's some juicy salvage for Death it seems. Interesting deck choice, with Death going all-in for damage and giving space only for 10 quanta cards. x) How good were majofa's opening hands? I'd expect 1-2 pillar starts with that build (which would be enough with all those cheap cards).
