(Temen’s POV)
I crouched under the camouflage netting Reconnaissance had set up. I put a pair of binoculars up to my eyes, adjusting them until the Geneticist’s “Modification Camp” was in sight. In every part of the world they invaded they made sure to have at least one of these camps in case they needed to modify any of their recruits on the fly, and as the invasion of the African Alliance, or the A.A, was of such paramount importance our scouts had spotted a total of 37 of these bases- not that they were hard to spot, for these bases the Geneticists relied on their defense systems and not camouflage. “Either way,” I mused out loud, “It would be hard to mask the noises of the abominations they make…” I heard a slight growl on the other end of my receiver. “I-I didn’t mean you, Raleigh,” I affirmed, slightly panicked.
“Fine, but stop day-dreaming, Temen, we almost failed on the last mission, a failure on this mission would make us the laughingstock of the Industrialist powers.” I nodded grimly, even though I knew he couldn’t see me.
I looked back towards the rest of my squad, all under camouflage netting, like me. We had decided to emulate the Geneticists in this mission- instead of overwhelming them with sheer numbers and might, we were instead a small elite group, and we were doing something slightly more efficient than sneaking in and shooting everyone, we were sneaking in, sneaking out. And leaving a bomb, a Hyang R-bomb, behind. I smiled slightly remembering a lecture I had been given about the bomb.
“The Hyang R-Bomb follows some of the same principles as the pre-Apocalypse atomic bomb, but is specialized for use against Geneticists.” The speaker, a middle aged, balding Russian coughed, before continuing. “Like the atomic bomb, the R-Bomb creates a nuclear explosion, but it is much smaller, as to not provoke the Geneticists to drop an atomic bomb on us. Instead, the R-Bomb makes full use of the radioactivity of the atomic explosion. It will affect only a small area, and not with much power, however, it reacts violently with the already unstable genes of most over-modified Geneticists to mutate them into things like this.” The man stepped back, as the wall slid back behind him, revealing a mess of tumorous skin and bone. Horrendously, the thing was still alive. I smiled slightly, thinking of how sweet revenge would be if I turned my enemies into that.I snapped out of my memory, still smiling slightly. In reality, this was only a test run, this bomb had never been used in combat before, and Muse, the feckless little Geneticist that he was, had been “injured” in our last fight, although, unfortunately, not killed, however, I knew that one of the Geneticists from that base, Akikaze, was there, and I shared some of Raleigh’s enthusiasm in knowing that he was going to die a horrible death.
(Wu-Tufu’s POV)
I steepled my fingers as I listened to muse. He had called me up this morning, and now he was finally telling me what his real purpose in my city was. Bargaining with the city itself… It was possible; Shin-Tain had been around even before the Apocalypse, although in a much different form. Before, it was a military base where the military was experimenting with computer sentience, but after the founders of the modern Shin-Tain had found it, 23 years after the apocalypse, they had made a bargain with Shin-Tain; in return for its protection they would help extend it further out from its base. Now, it resided in every nook and crevice of the city and helped protect against invaders, however, as it had gotten larger it had gotten… eccentric. Nobody had spoken to in in nigh on fifty-years, or rather, no-one had spoken to it and had it respond in nigh on fifty years… Or so the public thought. Members of my organization had been speaking to it throughout all of its existence; we, the descendants of the founders, had been tasked with protecting Shin-Tain, as well as its inhabitants, however, as far as I knew, there was no way for Muse to know that… unless… I subconsciously strengthened my mental defenses. All members of the Cyber Lotus were trained telepaths; not many Geneticists realized it, but those of us in the Industrial Powers had been affected by the Apocalyptic Retrovirus as well. I scribbled a note on a piece of paper which read “how much.” It would be best to find out exactly what he wanted to bargain to Shin-Tain about. As I handed my note to a small gyrocopter transport mech for delivery I thought
the intrigue just doesn’t end…OOC: Shin-Tain- sentient? you really surprised me there, Thalas, but regardless, that's a really cool idea...
