Very Long Backstory for MildlyFrightenedBoy:
Since MildlyFrightenedBoy was a child, he was always an avid scholar of magic. He loved everything about magic, and always wanted to learn more. Of course, there was a finite limit on how much he could learn from the wizards of his town, so he traveled to the next in search of power. He scoured the world for old, forgotten spells and bits of incantations written on used napkins. Once he had bested all of the wizards in the world, he turned to learn the dark arts of the black sorcerers, learning forbidden practices and studying demonic rituals. Once again, the black sorcerers could only teach him so much.
MildlyFrightenedBoy sat down, having accumulated all of the knowledge of magic in the land, and realized that there was one thing about magic that he did not know: its source. Who wrote the spells? Who created the potion recipes?
MildlyFrightenedBoy knew that someone had to have done it, and, since he was the most powerful wizard in the world, creating his own magical practice shouldn't be that difficult. He knew thousands of spells and potions, but he couldn't think of anything that he didn't have.
That is when he remembered an ancient legend that his father once told him. A man was walking through a marketplace when he ran into a young woman. They turned to apologize at the same time when he realized that she was the most beautiful girl that he had ever seen. He asked her to marry him, and she wanted to marry him, but she revealed that she was a goddess and could not marry a mortal. The man, distraught, spent twenty years searching for a way to be with his love. Eventually, he found a way, leaving behind his mortal body and becoming a being of pure magic to marry his goddess.
MildlyFrightenedBoy knew that this would truly be the pinnacle of all magic; becoming an immortal and rising above all of the lesser scholars and wizards. It didn't take him long to figure out how to come about the procedure, either. He would simply use a Soul Splitting spell, a dark curse designed to kill someone by removing their soul (all dark sorcerers knew that the body cannot live without the soul, nor could the soul live without the body), in conjunction with an Immortality Flask, a potion that grants its user total impenetrability for only a few seconds. If he drank the Flask while he removed his soul, he should be able to survive inside of his soul as a ghostly being of pure magic.
MildlyFrightenedBoy mixed together the ingredients for the Flask while preparing a circle of candles for the Soul Splitting Spell. Once the procedure was ready, he stood inside the circle and brought the flask to his lips. He began the incantation to remove his soul from his body. He felt a slight twinge in his chest. As he continued the incantation, the pulsing itch became faster and harder, beating loudly and drowning the sound of his words out of his ears. He continued with the incantation as his chest throbbed, and finally, as he finished the incantation, his soul burst out of his chest.
He felt the pain inside of his chest die down, which is when he realized that something was wrong. He shouldn't have been able to feel his chest. He realized the mistake that he made when he saw his soul in front of him, and, at the same time, his body right before his eyes. Tentatively, his body and soul reached out to touch hands. As his soul placed its palm on his body's, he felt a rush and a gust of wind, and became one person again. Yet, as he went to reach out his hand again, his body and soul split apart just as easily.
Attempting to retry the procedure, MildlyFrightenedBoy cast an Hourglass Charm, a spell that turns the user backwards in time about twenty minutes. A ghostly hand shout out of his back and sent a lightning bolt to the ceiling, which caught on fire, as he stumbled forward, creating a large chasm in the floor a few inches to the right. Clearly, he shouldn't use magic until he could control his current form.
Scouring his books, he found a story of a small ruby with the power to cleanse any spells or curses on someone. It was locked in a hidden room in a dark castle (of course). Determined to find the ruby and reattempt to become a being of pure magic, he set out into the jungle, fashioning a small knife out of a shard of glass, which seemed to have been affected by the Soul Splitting spell.
Back up to date:
My body didn't find anything unusual, just a few felled trees. My soul, however, was a lot more lucky, discovering a small, but very deep hole in the ground. It floated through the hatch and found a large, runic indent on the wall. Upon pressing on the indent, the ceiling fell to the ground. My soul floated up through the ceiling to discover that a large castle was now lifted up onto a nearby mountain to the North, towering over the jungle and clearly visible.
1. (Body) Find nothing useful.
2. (Soul) Find hole and explore, summoning the castle.
3. Rejoin myself at my Body.
