Title: Rise of the Elementals (Chapter 1)
Post by: majofa on May 24, 2011, 11:24:11 pm
Some in the group pressed on through the forest hoping they could catch Hyroen and reclaim what was stolen... others stayed behind.
The journey through the forest was more arduous than they had imagined. The forest critters came in waves as if someone was leading them. But they persevered and could finally see the edge of the forest.
(Gain +5 Exp .. for each person who went north through the forest)

As they neared the sunlight, they heard a low rumble. Their minds barely had time to wonder what it was when from the left a giant Hobgoblin broke through from the thick tree line. Accompanying him were 5 forest goblins. They knew they'd have to work as a team to win this battle, but luckily they were prepared.
(There are 5 Forest Goblins and 1 Hobgoblin to fight. You must defeat the goblins before you can fight the Hobgoblin. Anyone can fight at anytime. Be careful, the Hobgoblin is tough... it may take all of you to defeat him)
4/5 Goblins remain

(Also state what you want to do after the day is over)

If you're still in town
(You get 5 actions)

Marksman (3): Gives you access to another MARK, plus you'll learn 3 cards of that element. He loves his randomness.

Hunt some forest critters (2): [Jaymanfu will be the NPC] A little stronger than goblins, but still pretty weak. [2exp]

Weapon Shop (1): Generic weapons..... only way to get stronger weapons. Unlike shields.. you can't use these as molds for more shields.

Weaponsmith (2): Create a weapon. Replace the generic weapon with the corresponding Rare Weapon.
Dagger = Vampire Stiletto, Arsenic
Short Sword = Lobotomizer, Discord, Fahrenheit, Morning Glory
Short Bow = Owl's Eye
Hammer = Pulverizer, Titan, Druidic Staff, Eternity, Trident

Flip a Coin (1): I flip a coin. If heads gain +1 luck.

:air - Hyroen - missing
:darkness - YoungSot
:death - gavsword
:earth - Terroking
:entropy - Jocko
:fire - Spiraler
:time - The Mormegil
Decks start mono
HP - cards you have (max HP is 60)
STR - your STR - enemy's DEF = # of upped cards you can use
DEF - enemy's STR - your DEF = # of upped cards you opponent can use
AGI - for every 3 AGI more than enemy, there is a chance of going first
LCK - secrets....
EXP needed - how much you need to level

Each level gains you 3 points (1 point = 3 HP .. and .. 3 HP = 3 cards) [when you get to 60 HP, exchanges will be possible.. or something else X) ]
HP can only be of your element for the time being (and only of cards you already have in you RotE deck)... later you can learn other elements.

Have these decks been balanced in any way? Or how would this game function?

I see some decks that work --much-- better as monos. Just sayin'...

Perhaps some cards from each element could be "rare" similar to how some non-rare cards were treated as "rares" in World of Elements? This could prevent players from out-monoing each other too early.

Some rules questions:
What happens if our character loses a battle?
Could you clarify what the "chance" of going first with AGI is?

What happens if our character loses a battle?
I haven't decided yet. You may lose some cards. It may have to do with STR and DEF.

Could you clarify what the "chance" of going first with AGI is?
I'll use a randomizer to determine if you get to go first.
If you get to go first and the NPC wins the coin toss, they will pass their first turn.
Title: Re: Rise of the Elementals
Post by: YoungSot on May 27, 2011, 09:26:00 pm
But how much does AGI play into the final outcome? For example, "it increases the chance of you going first by 15% per 3points of AGI over your opponent."

Decks start Mono, but can we change our mark (like if I wanted to burrow my devs)?

Very well. But I would suggest at least revealing the workings of AGI, otherwise we players won't have any good way to compare it to the other stats (which are revealed).

Let's just say that having higher AGI gives you a good chance of going first...

Title: Re: Rise of the Elementals
Post by: YoungSot on May 29, 2011, 05:39:04 pm
Yes, I already checked with majofa on that. Our HP is our card collection, not our exact deck.

I bought 9 additional cards because my starter deck had a ton of useless cards (voodoo dolls, parasites w/out death quanta, cloaks w/out important cards to protect, etc). I might decide to switch to just adding 6 cards and buying a point of strength or luck.

I have gathered you here today, because a great evil is upon us. An evil that threatens to cause the world ruin. The balance of the world is slowly losing it's grip. Before us we've assembled warriors from the farthest kingdoms.

Hyroen, from the clouds of the sky people. Your's have watched over us for countless ages. Your wisdom and swiftness will prove of great worth.

Spiraler, your strength and passion have been always burned true.

Jocko, without order the world would fall into chaos, but with out chaos life would be as lifeless as a rock in the deserts of Azr'a.

gavsword, all things that live eventually have the same fate. Your people have always helped guided the fallen on their journey.

The Mormegil, the greatest invention of the inventor Claude Warnstein. Though you do not possess flesh and blood, your loyalty knows no equal.

YoungSot, there can be no light without darkness. Though many look upon your people with fear, the ears of the shadows will prove to be very valuable.

And finally Terr- ….. hmm Terroking seems to be late……
(Terroking coming running in)
Well, there he is…..
Yes, and finally Terroking, your people, although slow, have the strength and resilience that can never be shaken.

You all are our greatest champions and our last hope. Please make haste for our time is short. To begin, go speak with Sa'rla the Wise.
(PM me for the next step, or find me in chat)
The seven warriors proceeded to Sa'ria the Wise. There they learned that a 7 goblins had stolen Nymph's Tears. With the long journey ahead, they decided it might be fun to get a little warm up. Most dispatched the goblin quickly.. although some fooled around too much and almost lost their life.

There still being 3 full days before their quest would begin... the seven warriors decided to browse around the town and see what it had to offer.

(You're all sleeping now, but tomorrow you'll have a chance to actually have some control of what you do! Yes, how exciting.)

So, stay tuned!

You change the cards in your deck by buying more hp then only using the cards you want.

And yeah, this game is gonna be a lot of fun. Can't wait!

I would like to:
1. Visit the Armorsmith
2. ? (depends on the answers to my questions below).
3. ?
Not 100% final on theses choices yet

Thoughts and Questions:
-At least one player (maybe two) should probably take the search for clues option. Any volunteers?
-Will the general's deck change every match? i.e. would it be a valid strategy for one of us to attack him, probably lose, but learn about his deck so that another teammate would stand a better chance?
-I'm assuming battling with a teammate doesn't carry the threat of death, and battling a goblin does? What about attacking the general?

Is it an IRL day? ._. meh, I'd prefer this to be in-game days. First, this could be paced a little quicker (I don't want to wait 3 actual days before going on with the story) and second, it doesn't require checking in every day, because I'm sure sometimes we will skip our daily connection due to RL.

I would love it to be in game days too. But of course faster pacing for us also directly correlates to more work for majofa, so it might have to stay as RL days, and if so that's fine.

@majofa, will the general's deck change every match? i.e. would it be a valid strategy for one of us to attack him, probably lose, but learn about his deck so that another teammate would stand a better chance? Or do we have to send two potential suicides before we can even know that?

The General's deck won't change... but like I said... he's really hard.

I wanted to get it started.. so this is acting as a buffer while I get the rest of the stuff ready... I don't want to have any delays once we get going.
Also, not everyone is on the same schedule.

I'm thinking about throwing myself against the general guys. I'll certainly lose, but it might turn out that there is a way to counter his deck once we know what it is. And if not... well it will still have been more interesting than fighting a goblin.  :)
The downside of course is that I lose a turn I could spend sparring/trading with other players.

The only cards you can learn through leveling are cards that were in your starting deck.

So no winning a card from another player then buying more copies of that card? I see. That changes things. Thx for the clarification. Might be good to reword the OP a little then too (in case you weren't already going to).

Are you sure you want to do that right now? you could wait a day to procrastinate.
Is that a pun or a suggestion? ;) Anyway, I think this is the best course of action as tomorrow we will have the information we need in order to decide wether to battle goblins or not.
Yeah a pun. "Procrastination today" is the better plan.

Since I doubt we'll be able to beat a General, at least a few of us should spar once and get the 2 exp then fight a goblin to level up, having lvl 3s will be useful.

It's possible you could win, but I wouldn't fight the general unless you're mostly doing it for fun. 3rd shield is probably the more "competitive" choice.

The warriors spent their 3 days preparing for the long journey ahead of them. Some visited the Armorsmith, some went goblin hunting. Others thought they'd take their chances against the General, one even succeeded in impressing him... but now as day 3 came to a close, they reminisced how it felt more like 7, and they hope their journey doesn't seem as long and drawn out as the city.

Armorsmith - Gain a shield of your Element. (plus keep your generic shield)
:air - Fog Shield
:darkness - Dusk Mantle
:death - Skull Shield
:earth - Titanium Shield
:entropy - Dissipation Shield
:fire - Fire Shield
:time - Procrastination

Battle a goblin - No Nymph's Tears, but this one seems a little faster. [1 exp]
Goblin
1 HP / 1 STR / 1 DEF / 10 AGI / 5 LCK
Code: [Select]
4tc 4vc 4vq 52g 52k 55k 55n 58o 58u 5bs 5bv 5f0 5f1 5i4 5l8 5l9 5oc 5od 5rg 5rq 5uk 5v0 61o 61pSpar with an Ally - Both players must agree to battle. Bet cards equal to half your level (rounded down). Winner gets the bet cards. [2 exp]

Battle the General - He's gonna destroy, but you can try anyways.... [3 exp]
General
5 HP / 35 STR / 35 DEF / 10 AGI / 0 LCK
Code: [Select]
6rk 6rk 6rk 6rk 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7jo 7k2 7k2 7k5 7k5 7k5 7k5 7k5 7k5 7k6 7k6 7k6 7k6 7n2 7n2 7n2
Search for Clues - Random information may help you on your journey, then again, you may not like what you hear.

Title: Re: Rise of the Elementals

The MARK you'll get is random ;)

The weapons are generic, so only 'Other' weapons.

Of course -.-

Well, Earth duos well with nearly everything, so I'll take my chances. (This is assuming that of or in addition to the 3 cards we get, we get Pillars and/or Pends)

If we don't get the pillars and/or Pends, then I'll take a generic Hammer and another forest critter. (By the way, guys, it looked like a Life mono with random creatures, saw a Druidic Staff, a Bond, Scorps, Rustlers, Frogs, and Cockatrices Water pends too but nothing to use them for).

So.... Now what?
Title: Re: Rise of the Elementals
Post by: majofa on June 13, 2011, 02:26:24 am
As they left the safety of the city, they ventured to the east. For, south and west of the city were nearly vertical walls of mountains and to the north was an immense wall of stone. As they journeyed east they neared the checkpoint after nearly a day of walking.

"Welcome warriors to the Anda'lan Forest Trading & Military Outpost. We know you've spent the whole day walking here, so we've prepared some healing medicine to recover you immediately. You leave in the morning, so we've also prepared some no sleep potions. Now you can spend the whole night training."

(You get 5 actions)

Marksman (3): Gives you access to another MARK, plus you'll learn 3 cards of that element. He loves his randomness.

Hunt some forest critters (2): [Jaymanfu will be the NPC] A little stronger than goblins, but still pretty weak. [1exp]

Weapon Shop (1): Generic weapons..... only way to get stronger weapons. Unlike shields.. you can't use these as molds for more shields.

Flip a Coin (1): I flip a coin. If heads gain +1 luck.

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY!
*Ahem* back in character now:

"Companions, I think you will agree, it would be wise for us to remain a coherent band if at all possible. Towards that end, let us convene and determine our next steps as a body."
"We've heard that a master of weapons may arrive in time, who will undoubtedly be a valuable resource for us. I suggest we wait a brief time for the weapon master, during which we can continue training. Afterwards, we should begin our journey in earnest. As for our path, the Earth elemental has already suggested the northern route, which I am not opposed to (though I would note that traveling by sea may be much faster)."

of course, once we're able to build nice decks, there won't be a whole lot of room for additional "leveling up", so opportunities to improve our decks will probably come slowly.

EDIT: That is unless we can eventually get meta-game abilities like our opponents have. Forcing the opponent to not act for a turn and such. I suppose we could keep getting more powerful in that manner almost indefinitely.

Stay and wait for the weapon master to appear. (and train)

And a forest critter.

Hey, this is still going... but you guys need to update your stats and decks.... remember when you remove the cards that Hyroen stole, replace them with Quantum Pillars.

I just need to find jaymanfu one of these days to fight a critter, other than that I'm good to go.

EDIT: Done. Ready whenever the rest of the party is.

"I am aware that sometimes patience is necessary. I have lain in wait for days on end in order to catch an opponent off guard. But this endless dallying stretches my patience thin. Every second we stand about staring listlessly, our stolen assets move one step further out of reach. No offense to my Time elemental friend, but procrastination is not the answer to this problem. If we're going to catch that traitor we must be off! Are the rest of you coming with me?"

I'll come with you provided I don't have to make my text shiny.

Shiny text will only be required if you wish to talk "in character". Other-wise feel free to be as un-shiny as you please.   ;)

Are you heading North through the Forest or East across the Lake.

I was still thinking of heading after Hyroen (unless you just don't want us to). Is there anyway our characters can attempt to track him?

Fine. I suppose we'll head north, if that's alright with Terro.

Which direction is the Air elemental's lands btw?

*spots two men heading north in the distance*
Hey, WAIT FOR ME!

Besides, it only really helps in combat. We'd be better off with a spell like "Overland Flight" or something, and I imagine that would have been in Hyroen's spell list.

I don't know if you can join, I suppose we'll have to see if majofa is planning to get this going again.

They probably aren't allowed, in that we already have players for those elements. If by chance majofa is allowing new players you'd probably need to pick one of the currently unused elements ( :aether :gravity :life :light :water , maybe  :air)

They all stayed in the outpost to await the weaponsmith, for they knew that his expertise would prove beneficial on their journey. As they waited, they started to notice that things had gone missing, including Hyroen. He seems to have left without a word and took some of their stuff with him.
Replace the following cards with quantum pillars (yes you can use the QPs)
Terroking
Obsidian Pillar
Hematite Golem
Hematite Golem

YoungSot
Adrenaline
Adrenaline
Obsidian Pillar
Long Sword

gavsword
Bone Pillar
Bone Plllar
Vulture

Jocko
Mutation
Maxwell's Demon
Mutation

Spiraler
Phoenix
Burning Pillar
Immolation

The Mormegil
Ghost of the Past
Reverse Time
Light Pillar

They also noticed a change in the forest critters. Something was giving them power...

Finally after a week of waiting the weaponsmith finally arrived...

(Also state what you want to do after the day is over)

(You get 5 actions)

Marksman (3): Gives you access to another MARK, plus you'll learn 3 cards of that element. He loves his randomness.

Hunt some forest critters (2): [Jaymanfu will be the NPC] A little stronger than goblins, but still pretty weak. [2exp]

Weapon Shop (1): Generic weapons..... only way to get stronger weapons. Unlike shields.. you can't use these as molds for more shields.

Weaponsmith (2): Create a weapon. Replace the generic weapon with the corresponding Rare Weapon.
Dagger = Vampire Stiletto, Arsenic
Short Sword = Lobotomizer, Discord, Fahrenheit, Morning Glory
Short Bow = Owl's Eye
Hammer = Pulverizer, Titan, Druidic Staff, Eternity, Trident

Flip a Coin (1): I flip a coin. If heads gain +1 luck.

Updated my post, including my stats spent.
One question: May we rearrange our stats? I don't like that point i spend in str before.

Why don't you want points in str? It's arguably one of the better stats.

Since the max hp is apparently 60, and I can't get the cards I want without surpassing that, I was wondering if there's be any way to sell or trash useless cards, or  some way to gain additional max hp at this time.

You'll just exchange the cards permanently.

I don't have almost any of the cards on my deck upped, so its pretty useless to me. I rather have that one in def.

4/5 remain (it says in the OP)

I think I might have to make a new thread since so many people have quit.

Who is still wanting to play?

The main problem I have with this is the terrible timezone conflict between me and the NPCs (you). It really hurts my chances to play. Although, I don't have much time nowadays in any case.
