Hello all, I'm here to announce that I am setting up a campaign for a tabletop game I have rather enjoyed over the past year or two. Though, it is a game originally from spain in, you guessed it, spanish, an english translation has been steadily coming out over the last years, and has offered a vast amount of entertainment to my group IRL. I've had a lot of fun with it, and I have decided to bring it here for all. What I'm trying to set up is a group of say 5 or so other people to participate in a tabletop experience. We would meet at a weekly time, to be determined by schedules, and play a session that can last as long as desired. If needed we could also hop on discochat for voice, though that would not be required. Now, why anima and not DnD?


Have you ever been just a little annoyed with how rigid and set DnD is (As in my experience, it is) Have you ever wanted to have an actual choice in your characters skills and abilities? Well look no further, anima is here. This is a game with an entire section dedicated to creating your own abilities. It was made for people who like anime and videogames, so that they could have an outlet to live out their fantasies in a table top format. Obviously it can't cover literally everything, but it offers the framework, and the foundation to allow an unprecedented amount of customization and creativity. Of course, with pros must come cons, the game a lot going on under the surface, character creation can be daunting, but I have a good amount of experience playing (just over 2 years of playing) and have hosted 3 successful campaigns that have felt pretty good, so I can almost always lend a hand. A lot of the mathier stuff will be on my end as the host, as I'll do every calculation on my own. This also means some combat may take longer if I don't have the formula's prepared for every attack, which can happen if something new is learned mid session, though that is rare.


With this added freedom comes a change of host style from most dnd games. Most of the time, your GM wants you to do exactly what they want, they want you to kill the lich or take over the kingdom, in anima it couldn't be further from the case. Yes, there will be a "goal" of the campaign, and I will offer it at points, but there will always be something going on else where, and I'll never force you to follow my story. Additionally, I won't tell you what not to do. Players in the campaign are not forced to share character sheets or information or get along and I won't pretend like I can make you. You will have the freedom to make your own choices, and I'll stand by that.


Anima is played primarily with a d100, with some checks involving a d10. Sessions will be a few hours long, and will be done weekly. If you are unable to make a session, that is perfectly alright, you may get a little behind on XP. Coming in late to a session will likely result in your character remaining MIA until a time is deemed appropriate, unless otherwise stated or planed, characters that are not in play are off doing something else until the player returns and can bring them back. XP is earned at the end of the session based on A, the amount of time put in. B, the amount of progress made in whatever we happen to be doing. Finally, C, What each individual did. Some characters who do more will simply earn more xp. If for whatever reason I cannot make a session, I will grant a flat XP boost to all players, and apologetically make a new session ASAP.

In the posts below I will post a character creation guide, step by step on how to make a character based on what you need, with links to download the books, and page numbers to look at for exactly what you need. Ji412jo has also helped vastly by giving a few strong links to assist in this process (Thank you very much) This post will also include a Q&A section


And in the post below that will contain the players and the next session time, additionally in spoilers I will post session notes in case someone misses one, or if someone wants to hop in mid campaign.

1. In Core Exxet they have the choice of where to distribute +10 to five different skills (similar to the freelancer class ability) as part of their natural bonus. This counts as a special bonus, and cannot exceed 100 in any skill in combination with the next part of the natural bonus.
2. The character has the ability to choose 1 physical skill (based on STR, DEX, AGI, or CON) and 1 mental skill (based on POW, WP, INT, or PER) to add their characteristic bonus to that skill. This counts as a special bonus and cannot exceed 100 in any skill in combination with the above part.

These are all the books currently translated in english, and in pdf, which is most all of them

But what pages should you read? Well, heres a handy dandy spoiler guide that currently has little in it other than the basics

You need download the first book

Read pages 8-25 for basic character creation steps, these will come into play later, but its good to get an idea early

Then read pages 26-30, and 255-259 for races. The first section is for humans with the souls of special races, and the second is for the literal races. You may also play as human of course

Then, gloss over pages 31-42. They will list you the classes you can play, these class affect how you level up and can spend your points. Mages are better at leveling up magical abilities, warriors might not be.

43-50 lists the secondary abilities you can invest in.

At this point you should have read a bit about how a character is made, a characters class, and race, and secondary abilities. I then like to decide what path my character will take. There are 5 major paths your character can take, with limitless variations.

You should also take note on the combat, which is pages 78-91, and take a look at the starting game shop (you can spend your starting money here) 62-75

The first is Magic, which will follow a book a spells they have access to. The total amount of spells is about 750~ or so, so you have a lot of options in front of you

108-176 explains all of what mages do, plus all the spells available. You will also need to read from the magic rule changes to adjust your spell book. In addition, you will need to at least glance at pages 1-100 in the supernatural book, some stuff can be glossed over, but all of it can be used by mages in some way shape or form. additionally 110- end can contain some information you might find interesting or important.

Summoners are another branch of magic, though to the two are very different. Summoners can take part in up to three different general paths of summoning, each more or less entirely unique.
Spoiler for Hidden:
Summoners will need to read the magic sections as well (minus the spellbook if they don't wish to cast any spells, and must read 176-192 on summoning. They will also likely have to look at the creature creation guide on 282-311 and the creature book. Additionally summoners should look at pages 1-29 of the magic book, and pages 58-100.

Then psychic, which is generally regarded as fairly OP. They have a lot of powerful effects, and they can use them often, but they should they max a powerful skill, they may find themselves more of a one trick pony than an actual player. A balanced character here offers a great deal of entertainment, as well as RP potential

Psychics should read pages 192-212 in the main book, and pages 100-110 in the supernatural book, as well as page 11

Then Ki. Ki is basically the anime part of the game, it includes great deal of powerful abilities, including a section about making your own powers. If you want to emulate a character from an anime and dont quite know how, this is the place to do it. Realistically, there are limitless options here.

Ki users should read pages 94-108, as well as 56-62 (martial arts being the last, and most attuned with ki) as well as nearly the entire Ki book. Almost all of it is important in some way, or offers you choices. Do note, martial arts are updated and in the ki book on page 28+

Then Non-specials. These are for people who don't want to mess with magic or ki. You can learn weapons and skills that will easily let you become a fear combatant, which a laundry list of skills. This category can also cater to the people who dont want to focus on combat, and would rather play more as an RP, as you dont /just/ gain xp for combat, you could really spend your time learning skills and contributing in a noncombat capacity, such as blacksmithing or healing.

Weapon modules in the gamemaster hand book (6-8) and in the ki book (132+) and the main book 56-62. Beyond that, revisiting the secondary abilities may offer some help as well.

Story bases.
Spoiler for The Will of the Council:
This game will take place in a world ruled by a heavy handed council, this council hates supernatural beings, and have lead a campaign of hate against them that has been quite successful. They are put in slums, or simply kicked out of cities, and the people have been happy with it for a while. As disdain brews among the supernatural, tensions rise, and as the story begins, revolts and uprisings are breaking out. The council thus has exerted more pressure and demands on the people, and they are growing weary as well.

This game is the one I just finished a two year long game with my RL friends, there is a ton of room for side exploration, and really, is the most open of any of the games

There is a pretty even amount of combat and story

Pros: Already been run a few times extensively
Lots of exploration
dynamic world

Cons: Can seem unfair to the supernatural
Lots of hostility
Spoiler for The Devil's Due:
This campaign is fairly closed, there isn't a lot of room for exploration and side events. It focuses around a town that has had a massive spree of murders during the night, and the trials and fear that town is under. It is heavily focused on story events, and has little combat. Its a gritty story, and not a very happy one. It will act like a murder mystery at times, but it will pan out mostly as a thriller. Once the campaign is over (It is much shorter than the others) more options will open up, but at the start its rather linear. Good for starting out if you dont want to be left wandering around, and want a heavier DM hand.

Pros: Linear story
Short
Heavily story based

Cons: See above
Limited side exploration and quests

Spoiler for The God Wars:
This story is going to revolve around the gods, and their interactions with each other. There will be, as the title suggests, lots of conflict in this story, and the details are going to very based on some early choices. Expect the story to glide in line with the gods you "align" yourself with, evil gods lead to darker questlines, and good gods will lead to brighter stories. Nothing will be cut and paste in this, most quests will be tailored specifically for the games path.

Lots of combat, decent story

Pros: Easy to explore the gods and the Elan system (which is my favourite part)
Open world, dynamic.

Cons: Party splitting is more likely, not everyone has to chose the same god, and so paths and goals may differ

Spoiler for Best Left Buried:
The Emperor is at his wits end, or so the commoners say. His guard has tripled in size, and walls are built every month. Taxes are growing and people begin to worry. He has recently put out an invitation, asking any and all adventurers to see him for a grand quest, with fortunes beyond wildest dreams as the reward. As the adventurers gather the king calmly makes his announcement. He needs three people found, and brought back, dead or alive. As he gives his final word he is wisked away by his guard, and the room thins as adventures head off. A squire hands out missives with the details and last known location of the men. Who they are, and why they are being hunted is left unsaid, but some things are better that way.

Even combat and story

Pros: Highly wealthy world, prime for buying fancy things
Combat with more humanoids than monsters
Lots of sidequests and exploring

Cons: Big world, easy to get lost

It seems we would have a legal problem with posting links to these PDF's since all I can find is that they're copyrighted and not found for free anywhere. I'll let you take down those links on your own and find a different way to convey this information where they're not on our site.

Alright so I have two bits of housecleaning left. 1 finish stats for asdw, and two , I'd like suggestions of times and days to play. Please post 3 suggestions of days and times (or just a flat time if all days are mostly the same) I'd prefer either later in the day on weekends or I can figure out some weekdays I'm good
