(please note, im entering this conversation for pure amusement purposes)

Heres a better question, why NOT God? I mean, what if youre wrong and there really is a god? Whats the harm (for those that try to make people change how they view things) in letting people believe there is one if it makes them feel better?

No Blue priest, thats already the stance of the status quo.

We've had thousands of years trying to prove what if (and failed), now its time to question what if not.  That is a position many have trouble getting their heads around.

So what if not? Thats my question? So we keep doing everything we do already except go to church and pray, thats so what if not.

Now, what if? dodging the question doesnt make it disappear.

Im not saying prove that god exists, im saying what if he does? I mean, you cant prove he doesnt exist, so I dont get the point behind what if not?

Are you suggesting one should believe in God "just in case" so you wouldn't end up in hell if it happened to be true?

"Well I'm horribly sorry, sir, but the Jewish were right. Now go to Hell! (Literally.)"

So why waste your time going to church, then? Life is too short as it is.

Of course you can pray even though he doesn't exist, you do that already, right?

Now, what if? dodging the question doesnt make it disappear.
What if?  Well he needs a good talking to, cos he's made such a mess of the messages he's left behind, no one with any common sense could possible swallow them.

Im not saying prove that god exists, im saying what if he does? I mean, you cant prove he doesnt exist, so I dont get the point behind what if not?
I'll take my chances.  Otherwise, it seems I'll be spending eternity in hell with all the intelligent & interesting people, whilst heaven will be ruined by the presence of so many church goers.

This has nothing to do with whether God(s) exists or not, but rather why does he/they need to exist?
I think for me the question is flawed.  I believe God exists... and created everything we see.  So there's not an answer for 'why does he need to exist'...  I has nothing to do with me needing something to believe in.  He exists because He does...

I undertsnad what you are saying, however, as I and an number of people are quite sure he doesn't exist, I therefore wonder why he needs to exist, as his non-existance hasn't changed anything for me?

So where do you think everything came from?  Trees? dogs? humans? stars? laws of physics? human emotion? human morality?

Exactly.  these are fantastic things.  Amazing things.  Now is it possible they could exist without the creation of yet another utterly amazing thing (god)?

Science and religion agree that there had to be something in the Universe that didn't have a cause.

According to science it was an event (the Big Bang), and according to religion it was an intelligent life form (God). Aside from us materialistic types finding it much weirder to have a creature exist in the middle of nothing than an event from nothing, a nice parallel is how we used to think lightning was directly produced by gods. Nowadays we know it is a natural phenomenon, as well as how it works.

No, I'm asking you.  How do you explain the existence of all these things and think that God cannot also exist?

I have evidence and experience of all these amazing things.  I have no experience or evidence of God, in fact rather to the contrary, all things point to a lack thereof.
