Ive all but left this section of the boards for one reason.  Every single topic that is made here, if not atheistic, is suddenly crowded with people saying that theres either no reason to believe in some type of God, or distorts said religion. So heres my question.

Why do you care what other people believe? If you dont believe the Jesus is the only way to heaven, why is it that instead of just saying you dont agree, you have to say why you shouldnt agree? Why invade a topic thats about a religion you dont care about, if you are only there to cause chaos?

To me personally, it shows that it is a matter of not wanting to believe, instead of truely not wondering.

Call it evolution (if ure not of a creational believe you may agree there IS evolution), that people do not believe in illusions no more. In fact there IS a religion section, so you´ll read the opinions towards religion in this community. Call me intolarant, but i agree.

We care about what other people believe because when you find the truth or seek something interesting, it is human nature to spread what you have learned and what you know...

How can say it is the truth, when others are going on faith though? This is directed towards atheists in this board, not towards theistics. Your "truth" is as real to you as our faith is to us. I can say 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt that I know the bible is true, why is it though, that some, not all, but some, and it seems a vast majority, of atheists on this board feel the first thing to say to theistic people is that they are stupid for believing it? Why is any belief other than your own stupid? Athesists who tend to hate religious people because they say they arent tolerant of other people, are in reality the most intolerant people most of the time.

And note, Im using stereotypes, because they are generally true. Not all the time, and if you are an atheist that does not fall into this, then no offense is intended towards you.

In my experience, I've found that atheists do sometimes insult theists. But theists also insult atheists. Besides, this is a board for religious discussion.

I care about religion because of several things. Atheists are, in many ways, discriminated against. For example the boy scouts, in some places federally funded, do not allow atheists to join. George H. W. Bush said that he doesn't consider atheists to be citizens, based on the U.S. being "one nation under God." And these are just examples from the United States. I have many other reasons to care.

And besides, don't most of the threads in this board ask questions like "why atheism?" They're SUPPOSED to have multiple viewpoints. Why do you care? Why do Christians and other religious groups post in the religion section? To state their viewpoints.

I don't care what other people believe. I just care that what they believe affects me.

But im talking about for example, my christian viewpoint thread, it was instantly flooded by things that really didnt have anything to do with the topic at all, when it was meant for serious discussion. I have no problem with anyone creating topics, and some topics are meant for all viewpoints, however, more often than not when trying to have a serious discussion, I end up not being able to because im too busy trying to set false pretenses straight, and I wouldnt mind if they were from people who actually cared and were curious, but are instead from people who are just trying to produce chaos and confusion.

And you did it in that post right there. I know some christians cite horrible examples of extreme atheists, however, that is all that is ever cited about christians, is the extremists.

I'm not in any way trying to produce "chaos and confusion." I'm trying to answer your question. Your question was, "why do you care?" I stated why I care. In terms of your Christian viewpoints, If you just want to discuss it with other christians, then ignore the atheists that post. Or make it more explicit that you only want to discuss it with other Christians. But still, some will post. And atheism is a legitimate viewpoint, so why shouldn't they post, even if the topic isn't meant for them to? What I'm saying is, if you want to discuss something like that only with other Christians, just ignore others. This community is very religiously diverse; it may be a bit much to ask for only one group to post in a topic.

What I was talking about when I said that you did it right there is when you talked about a geoge bush saying atheists shouldnt be considered members of the united states, yes some people that call themselves christians do radical things, however, there are just as many radicals on the opposing atheistic pov.

The christian viewpoints was just an example, you are suppose to rep how you believe, so I dont just ignore posts, espcially when you consider something as serious a matter as what I do. All I am asking is for respect to that. Something that doesnt really happen mainly by atheists (in this forum at least, I have seen boards where it is just the opposite). And I dont give names, however implosion, I find it funny that you post here when i dont consider you one of the people that do that :P

Bluepriest, using stereotypes and generalizing does not aid your cause. Atheists (I belong to that group as I have not found a religion which I can 100% fully believe in and stand for, and thus I choose not to be affiliated with any at all) are divided. Every single one of us is an individual, just as every single theist is an individual. The difference being that atheists do not have a shared base of faith (eg: All Christians worship Christ, all Hindus believe in karma) which would mean that generalizing would be even less accurate.

If you wish for respect, give it and you shall receive it? (This goes for both sides of course).

Religion is a delicate subject and often people try to argue and convince people with firm stances that will not budge in any way (once again, both sides). Personally, I believe that you don't have to agree with a persons stance but that does not mean that the person lacks valid points. If an argument gets too off topic, it might be because people try to find common ground, or try to avoid it :D

And lastly: It is the Internet. And we are on a mystical/fantasy game site, not Christian Science Monitor. So people here are probably less prone to theism.

Yeah, I know, im trying to cover myself by saying that I am using sterotypes and that not all of the people fall into that, and that Ive seen sites that are just the opposite where the atheists are the ones that are having their discussions invaded by intolerant annoying theists. There are certain things though that carry across people of a certain religion, even if that religion is atheism though. I dont feel that stereotyping is bad when you are sure to mention that you know not all people fall into it.

Using stereotypes at all is probably counterproductive if what you want to achieve is an open communication.
