Well, this is why i don't usually want to talk about religion. That being said...
Why do i believe in God? Because i choose to. Other people might choose otherwise, and it's fine, as long as you face the consequences of what you choose.
Scientific evidences aside, religion is like a container for moral value. If you can obtain the value without using the container, then it's okay. I'd rather meet a polite and thoughtful atheist than obnoxious religious people.

I personnally believe in a god because i feel lonely.

Dont tell me something about universe or something.. Im bored of discussions with nonbelievers.. They chose to be atheist and they will be atheist. Since we cant really "show" them that god exists, I think they will stay this way. Nope, i believe in my religion otherwise I wouldnt be in it, so 10/10. There would be some more reasons why i believe in it but I dont want to discuss and argue now. Just tolerate and respect it..

Ranger, your points are generally valid..Except for the part where you take the book of Genesis as being literal... If I'm not mistaken, even the Christians in this thread have said that the bible should not be interpreted as being literal, and frankly to do so would just be...Wrong.

I am, if my understanding is correct, an Agnostic Atheist. I do not believe in a God, but I do believe it entirely within the realm of possibility. However, I find the existence of a divine creator very unlikely. I also do not support organized religion, but respect anyone who does follow a religion, provided that they respect my own atheism. If someone insists that I am "satanic" or that I cannot possibly have a moral center because my lack of religion, then there's a problem. :P

Contributing to discussion: It is my understanding that there is no evidence that Jesus Christ ever existed, and the modern bible was compiled hundreds of years after the supposed date of his death by a pope. There were hundreds, if not thousands of "books" floating around, and the pope chose several dozen to keep and had the rest burned as heresy. If this being the case, how is Jesus the son of God, and how is the Bible the word of God, when it is written, compiled, and sold by men?

Spoiler for Hidden:
I've no reliable resources, so take with a grain of salt. Persuing the internet in search of something, I haven't found much, but the general consensus is that Six years after Nicaea (331), Constantine commissioned Eusebius to create an official Christian Bible. A council decided which books should be included. In this process, many "books" were exluded from the new testament, and these books were declared heresy. As for Jesus never existing; there are no records of him. Literally nothing. The following link may be of interest.

As I understand it, the current state of scientific thought is that abiogenesis isn't actually unlikely.  In fact, there is an abundance of the building-blocks of life throughout the universe - sugars, amino acids and proteins are all found on meteors and within nebulae

It doesn't seem unlikely that wherever and whenever life can arise, it does.  I don't think you need to resort to the logic of large numbers in order to prove abiogenesis possible, as it may simply be the inevitable outcome of a planet like ours being created.

For the record, virtually all scholars believe that Jesus Christ did exist. The only thing really up for debate is whether he was actually the son of God and so forth.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
