*sigh* where to begin
buddha did not believe in the crap that most people believe buddhism to be based on. at least that is what i read in many old books.
the nirvana that most people think is not what buddhism is based on. nirvana is solely based on enlightenment, which means understanding the most important things in life. i dont know what they are yet, but that is why i am visiting a temple every once and a while. i only have ideas of what these things are. as for the reincarnation thing, i think the point he was trying to make was that is POSSIBLE, and not an absolute. and considering the fact that its possible, you should work to prevent the bad from happening. buddha was a firm believer of the phrase "better safe than sorry" (even though it probably wasnt those exact words back then) the reason he focused heavily on the possibility of reincarnation was because it was the most prolonging experience of all. and one should do everything they could to shorten it. he believed that if it were indeed true, good deeds would ultimately shorten people suffering through the reincarnation process. as he said (not exact words) "to live is to suffer"
