Is homosexuality a sin? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=7556.msg83738#msg83738

What is a sin?  I'll start with homosexuality, although this appears to apply to man on man action according to KJV, one could assume that lesbians are included after reading the other translations.

Leviticus 18:22 (translations)

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."  King James V.

"Homosexuality is absolutely forbidden, for it is an enormous sin"   Living Bible

"Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin."  New Living Translation

Therefore, what constitutes a sin, as a lesbian reading the KJV is free from sin, is she not?

answer to this if you think homosexuality is a sin
no homosexuality is not a sin neither is being lesbian

answer if this is here to help religous lesbians
(in my opinion-im not really all that knowledgeable on this subject) god made all ergo god made lesbians.

I'm not sure what prompted you to ask the question, but I think a reasonable interpretation and elaboration would be to include any relations where procreation is not feasible as with man-man as well as woman-woman.  Family and procreation hold tremendous value in the Jewish and Christian traditions (as well as Islamic tradition.)  A corollary to this would be human-animal type relations would also be sins (as no children would result.)

Gen 1:28--Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth...."

I'm not sure if I think homosexuality is a sin, however, the bible clearly states that it is.  Where do our definitions of sin come from, if not from the bible?

Is it really that simple?  The bible states that eating shellfish (Lev 11:10) is an abomination, yet I don't hear of many christains persecuting whelk or oyster eaters?  Is eating shelfish less of an abomination (sin) than being homosexual, and if so are there degrees of abomination (sin)?

I think the answer is that people that more Christians like shellfish than are homosexual, so the straight Christians make life difficult for the gays because it makes the heterosexuals feel better about themselves and their religion. Christians love doing this, in general. The Salem witch trials were essentially the government marking people as enemies of the state and church, and killing them, thereby bringing everybody else closer together.

btw: I'm not Christian, nor have I ever heard a compelling argument for why people solemnly believe that the bible is the word of god.

Oh, you liberal Swedes... Seddy.

That sounds plausible Finkel: Christians use the bible as 'literal' to uphold/reinforce personal predjudice, but ignore texts in the bible that they might disagree with ie. eating shellfish.

If homosexuality is such a sin, why ever do so many priests like young men?

Because it's unnatural to try to resist primal urges. You can't screw with or overcome nature. You can promise to never indulge in sexual acts or thoughts, but you can't keep it (in almost all cases). The vast majority of priests don't practice a purely chaste life.

If you want to have a debate on the biblical view of it being morally wrong, then im all for it, but if you want to get into a broad scope of it being morally wrong, then theres no point in debating it. So pick which one you want to do, and ill act accordingly. However, if you really do want a biblical debate on it being wrong, then you cant bring up the divinity of the bible, as once you do that, it destroys any point of debating.
