1 "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 "Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
The Bible seems to support your view on this, Thalas. Jesus generally wanted people to do the right thing out of love, not so they can earn rewards.
This. The idea is that believing in Jesus and believing in what he did for you makes you
want to do good works.
In fact, all you need to do to get into heaven is believe Jesus Christ your savior. However, when you do that, and look at what God did for you (sent his only son to die for you, a sinner, when he owes you nothing), you indeed want to change your actions else you feel terribly guilty and inadequate (which you are). If you believe in Jesus but don't then show it in your actions, I would go as far to say you don't actually believe in Jesus.
In flowchart form, it would look like this:
Belief in Jesus -> Heaven -> Desire to do good deeds.
While those that do good things just go to heaven to look like:
Desire to do good deeds -> Heaven
Which just doesn't work.
