I don't have a grudge against the Chinese people...it's just that they're language sucks. Seriously, you expect people to memorize 5,000 characters? That's messed up. I used to get like 40% on my Chinese tests -.- don't remind me of that time.

Chinese is more complex, and it doesn't suck  ^-^

It does take a long time to learn though.

You're not kidding. After ~4 years of half-hearted studying, my Chinese is about as good as the average 1st grader. :(

After about 4 years spent in Canada, I forgot how to write most of the Chinese characters... :-[

But Chinese doesn't suck. It's a beautiful language, IMO. Every character is unique. But it's not a language that is easy to learn, I admit.

Actually, after you get past the "wall" if you will (I didn't), the characters start becoming less and less original. They start having the same strokes, and it becomes easier and easier to learn it. Well, that's what I heard.

What do you mean by "original"? Chinese characters are made of different components, much like English words that are made of different roots, prefixes and suffixes. Whoever you heard that from, that person has no real understanding of Chinese.

OK, back on topic...

No, I mean that there are strokes used, and repeated again later. Maybe I wasn't clear. First, you learn a stroke, like the one that looks like a roof, and you use it in a simple word - years later - you use it again in a different word, and that word is easier to learn, since you know the "roof" stroke already.
