20 players, why we need prelims?

16 participants - 4 groups of 4, top 2 from each group advance to the knockout stage

Solves the issue of 2-3 being so much worse than 3-2.

Could be as simple as making sense because you've already tied in POINTS, so likelihood of match record helping is minimal compared to games? >.>

Example.

Player A loses all of his matches 2-3 - matches: 0 wins, 3 losses; games: 6 won.
Player B wins a game 3-2, loses other two 0-3 - matches: 1 wins, 2 losses; games: 3 won.

I think Player B should get the better placement. If I understand correctly things don't work like that here. Maybe Elements WC is the only competition
in the world which gets the logic reversed.

WC groups go on games. It is much more fun.

It's good to be consistent.

OK I get it that it is sort of a custom here - as a sports fan I used to the rule when won matches decide,
and in my opinion that's the juster way. Everyone can have a bad day (or rng). However I don't
wish to challenge the rule since it seems most of the players like it that way.
