There have been pretty cool ideas for tourneys so far, but I think I have one that everyone could enjoy. It's partially modeled after an M:tG tournament rules structure, but made more viable for elements.
Rule 1: No switching entire decks between games. Submit decklists to tournament organizers within a minumum of 30 minutes in advance, so organizers can verify no one is cheating. (Assuming they will be available at that time)
Rule 2: 40-Card decks. No exceptions. Optional 5-card sideboards to be submitted with deck. No pillars may be in any sideboard.
Rule 3: 4-copy limit. No decks can have more than 4 copies of any non-pillar.
Rule 4: Restricted list. Cards will be added/removed periodically. If I can suggest a few cards to restrict, they would be the following:
Only a single copy (1) of each of these cards are permitted:
Miracle
Amber Nymph
Fractal
Eternity
I looked through the entire card list, and nothing else seemed overly broken. I could even be mistaken about these 4. The point of the list is to make cards that are "very unfair" less apparent, so all players can enjoy the tourney.
Rule 5: No upgraded cards.
Rule 6: No other restrictions on deck construction. Best of 3 games. 45-minute rounds. Slow play will not be tolerated. Finals do best of 5.
The problem with this style tournament is that we would need more "staff" to oversee random matches (spectate), to keep order, and make sure everyone is playing by the rules; IN ADDITION to the staff that will be working on the tournament itself.
let me know what you guys think.
