The rules for today's tournament can be found in the opening post of the thread for today's tournament, here. I should warn you that this tournament started some time ago, and is not open for new participants anymore. Furthurmore, to enter a tournament you must have a minimum of 30 posts, whereas you seem to have only 12 at the moment. If you hope to enter next week's tournament, please meet this total by making only useful comments rather than half baked ideas and meaningless spam.

Regarding the 30 post requirement, are the posts in the Element Forum section on Kongregate counted twoards that, because I mainly use that because it is easier to get to.

So I'm just trying to get a better understanding of how tournaments actually work, I understand all the rules listed in this thread (and that there are rules specific to each tourney).  But what I'm not sure about is how you go about joining/actually playing the tournament, is the tournament simply carried out as a series of 1v1 friendly duels? If so how do organisers track who wins? I read something about the victor being required to post in a thread, but I can't work out which that actually is...

Help appreciated!

Tournaments are single-elimination, 1v1, best-of-3. One is held every week on a cycle that rotates eight hours every week and offsets by one every three weeks. This is meant to cover all hours of the day over a 24-week span.

Every week, people must be present in our tournament channel 15 minutes before the tourney starts to participate. People are then put into brackets randomly using a site called Challonge, which is really easy for organizers to use and participants to view.

If you win a match, you post in the tournament thread for that week. This week's, for example, is here.

I have something to say about 15th septemper 2012 weekly tournament.

Rule 1.3 Signing up:

"No signing up is required. Simply enter the EtG Tournament Channel on IRC:
Server: irc.ext3.net
Channel: #etgtournaments
at least 5 minutes before the tournament starts. Enter with a nickname that matches your forum name. If you arrive later than that, you will not be able to participate."

It would have been much better if the authority posted the exact time, for example: >2 minutes left for signing up of X tournament of the week.< Because i was very unsure of what was happening and that would prevent late people from joining. Which I believe, happened.

Rule 2.1 Making sure the rules haven't been updated:

"Sometimes players find loopholes in the rules that the organizers didn't take into consideration. In this situation organizers are forced to change the rules to make sure that there is no possibility of exploiting the rules and ruining the event. This is why before you start preparing for a tournament, it's always a good idea to make sure that the tournament rules haven't been updated."

We had problems with this one.

Rule 3.1: Finding an opponent

"See from the Tournament Brackets (http://images.challonge.com/elements-elementstournament.png) who you are fighting. You then have 5 minutes to start a duel with that opponent. If your opponent does not respond, contact Tournament Organizer who then also tries to contact the other player. If unsuccessful, it is considered a forfeit and you will move on to the next round.
If a player drops out mid-tournament, they will be replaced by the player they most recently beat and then by others down that chain of beaten players in that line in the bracket."

We could really use a 5 minutes countdown after the brackets are posted.

3.3 Changing your deck:

"You are allowed to change your deck and mark at any time but you only have 3 minutes to do so which is why it's very important to build all your decks in advance. If it takes you longer than 3 minutes, it is considered a forfeit and the other player goes to next round."

How can an authority ensure this rule?

"If you have any questions about the rules, please post them here. Thank you.
« Last Edit: September 11, 2012, 02:46:02 PM by Vineroz »"

Rule 3.4 Desync:

"When desync error happens, the match gets restarted, unless it was very clear who was going to win. We are hoping that players are honest about this, but if there is a dispute, tournament organizer will decide the outcome. Players are not allowed to change their decks or marks when a match gets restarted."

This rule were not followed. People were fighting AI and showing the result whenever desync happened.

I'm poiting out what i saw and if these rule-breakings are common, please tell me, I'm new.

1. That's because Challonge malfunctioned and the tourney was delayed.
2. There's always someone forgetting to check again. Nothing we can do about it.
3. We do have a countdown. It happens in private though, because it's not relevant to most as they start duelling immediately.
4. Spectate.
5. If the outcome would've been the same against an AI as against a player, you can play out against the AI. This is done if the time left for the round is about to run out. We even have a coinflip system if two people are too slow for the round, because a round lagging behind means -everyone- have to wait.

I know you're new, but understand a lot goes on behind the scenes. The rules are always followed, or consequences are enforced.

Let me get this straight.

If two people still have plenty of time to duel for the round, they shouldn't fight AI. Instead they must restart their current duel based on the rules.

Yep. Using AI results is commonly employed in competitive PvP when two people have been trying to connect for a long time (or keep timing out after connecting), and they're sick of wasting time. Two players can always agree to a result, and if they disagree with each other, the staff member in charge of the event decides the outcome. TO for Tournaments, Warmaster for War, PvP Organizer for PvP Events, and so on.

I always play out against the AI in the event of a desync, even if we have plenty of time left. It is what is most fair.

If one player cannot beat the opponent's AI, there is simply no way they could have won if a desync had not happened. In the event that only one player can provide a legitimate screenshot of a win against the opponent's AI, that player deserves the win because they would have won had a desync not happened. It is unfair for a match to be replayed when there was a clear winner for it.

Furthermore, replaying the match instead of playing the AIs makes it easy for players to cheat. If a player is going to lose the match, they can simply create a desync (yes, there are ways of doing this.) This player will then have a second, or even third chance to win a match they should have lost. It is highly unfair that a player could cheat in order to gain a significant upperhand.

Why people still want to replay without playing the AIs is beyond me.
Somehow still around, somewhat
