Being new is not a defense, nor have it ever been, against not reading rules or following conventions or culture. This is applied everywhere in life, why would a online community be any different? Be it in small things such an joining a small club of chess players or on a serious note lets say going to a company for a job interview. Having no clue whatsoever is de facto being a total ass****, wasting other peoples time, enjoyment and resources.
I personally would even go so far as to say that those people in western should be ashamed of themselves for how they acted, I certainly would be if i showed up at a, the example was, chess club saying wide an openly "I don know how the pieces move, and also i wan to be in tonight's derby" or more seriously showing up for a job interview professing no understanding of the job just that you think it might be cool and give loads of cash and that they should hire you regardless of what is required of you in academic knowledge or skill.
What it boils down to is: Grow the *** up, get interested and make an informed decision before throwing yourself into other peoples hard spent time and effort. If you crap on others, dont expect anything back. The universe is not centered on you, show some respect.
Rastafla out.
