Why didn't you ask their forum usernames BEFORE you started? You can even search those names to make sure they exist.

Signing up is extra work for organizers (much more work then you would think), and we should avoid it if possible.

you know what would be extremely useful?
another spreadsheet in the first League post with two fields : "your score" "opponent score"
and a third and fourth field with the calculated points gained if you win and the calculated points you lose if you lose...

The fact that a player with a 12-1 record has a score lower than the starting score of 1500 makes me doubt the effectiveness of this system. Either that or the spreadsheet is broken which I truly hope it isn't.

ELO becomes far more accurate as time passes. The loss was probably against a player that was ranked average but actually one of the top players. Once people are in their right spots ELO will almost be perfect.

I'm beginning to get concerned about how top players can lose a huge bulk of points when they lose against a low score player.

Personally I think there should be some sort of a rule that allows you to deny the match if the score difference is big enough, maybe 200?

So it seems one of the biggest problems with the leagues is that they start out gangbusters and really flame out quickly.  I tried starting in the middle and finding a game most days seems like an exercise in the impossible.  I log into chat at least a few hours a day and ask for games, but people are always too busy or just non-responsive.  It seems like there should be an activity penalty for players who just simply don't keep playing in the league.  I'd suggest something like a point penalty applied cumulatively daily to any player who is inactive for more than 3 days, with inactive being defined as not playing a league game.  This serve a dual purpose of making players be active throughout the entire league season, and prevent high ranking players from capping quickly and just sitting on it without playing games.  So for example, on the 4th day you get like a -25 point penalty, 5th day you get -50, 6th day you get -75, and you play a game on the 7th day so overall you suffer a -150 point penalty for 6 days of inactivity.  Obviously exceptions could be made for planned inactive times if posted in advance (say you are going out of town 5 days, so you get 5 days "free" but the 6th day you get a penalty if you don't play).  It sounds complicated, but I'd happily and eagerly volunteer to oversee this or a system similar if it revived activity in the leagues so that players who try to join in the middle aren't as frustrated as I have been trying to find games.

Allthough I agree that people are very inactive in the leagues. I don't like this idea at all. Vacations or breaks would totally screw up your score, while in my opinion Elements is not supposed to be that hardcore.

Most people in the league stop caring because there is a small chance they can win. All this would do is make the league an activity contest instead of a skill contest.

I accept every match when I'm in chat. "Without playing games?" In order to get to the top, you have to win most of your games, play good players, and play enough to reach the top. It's a lot more work than you think, and it's actually pretty difficult.

With this system, there would be little incentive to join the league until the last few weeks. This doesn't solve the "problem".

Seriously, we should start a league AFTER acquiring the reward codes or something, because for the past two, the winners (aka me and vagman <_<) had to wait about a month to receive the codes.
