So I'm working on a set of Dragon specific Fusion/Buff creatures. They bring with them several creature skills and step by step mechanics I can't help but want a second opinion on. Please voice your opinions and concerns.

(1) First off, every Dragon Rider costs 2 quanta of it's element to play. It's "fusion" skill costs 1 to use. The fusion leaves both cards on the field and makes the Rider untargetable until the dragon dies or leaves.

(2) Every Dragon Rider has a Crusader-like targeting mechanic. The fusion grants 1 target Dragon (of any element) a stat buff and a skill.
(so it waits 1 turn before the dragon can be targeted and the dragon waits another turn before it can use the skill)

(3) So far I have 4 Riders in mind:

Fire Rider grants +4/+0 and the skill Flamethrower.
 :fire :fire : Flamthrower
Deal 3 damage to target creature.


Water Rider grants +2/+3 and the skill Blizzard.
 :water :water :water :water : Blizzard
All enemy creatures take 1 damage and have a chance to freeze.


Wind Rider grants +3/+1 and the skill Dive.
 :air :air :air :air : Dive
Damage is double until end of turn.


Earth Rider grants +0/+6 and the skill Terraforming.
 :earth :earth :earth : Terraforming
Target permanent's effects are locked until your next turn.
(This is like the permanent equivalent of guard.)

make fusion one of the skills that goes away after 1 use. it would be cool if after its dragon died, it could fuse with another one, but that might be hard to code.

Ok, your right. Not trying to throw in complicated. Then the Rider might as well die with the Dragon as well as loose the skill after one use. The idea behind allowing it to recast was to strengthen the justification for having it in your deck.

That would definitively fit the fusion theme though, without making a strong standalone card due to the cards being connected, but separate.

If anything this more of a support card than a fusion. It's like a buff+teaching skill for a cheap price and turned into a creature... which normally might be considered OP, but is balanced due to being isolated to using with cost heavy Dragons.

Well, I always favored the idea that cards should have an equal amount- or at least balanced- of weakness and strengths. I think leaving it susceptible to CC for a turn it a fair trade off for the mechanics it brings to the table.

I love these cards and the mechanic they have. At firsty I thoguht the some of the abilities is a bit OP, but when you take in consideration that it takes 2 turns before they can use them and that  the rider can be killed on the first turn, maybe not so OP after all. If this ever gets into the game maybe other similar cards with the same mechanics might be added too?

I'm glad to see that you're commited to developing this concept, and look forward to further development.

Ideas: 

 :time - Dragon lays Fate Eggs

 :darkness  Dragon gains Vampire

 :entropy - Dragon is Chaos Seeded, CP'd when upped.

 :death - Dragon gains Venom

Just some thoughts.  Watching this thread, for sure.
The counter to :gravity isn't :aether; it's :D
