Okay, so when I suggested this in kong chat, it appeared most don't know what a card update is.
I have not read about it, so I may be using a wrong term.
A card update is the card changing to bring all stats on the correct values.
This normally happens at the end of turn, after it has been triggered.

There are currently 3 examples in-game:
  • scarab
    If a new scarab is created, it's hp remains at 1, and the other scarabs don't get +1 hp, untill the end of turn.
  • sanctuary
    If a sanctuary get's destroyed, the protecting effect does not get removed untill the end of the owner's turn.
  • hope
    If the amount of valid :light-producing creatures changes, it does not alter hope untill it gets an update.
  • spark, phase salvager
    When a spark comes into play, it has 0 hp, yet doesn't die untill it's next card update.

It's a short list, and therefore there are only a few uses of the card in it's current form:
  • allowing faster devourer with scarabs or catapulting them with more damage
  • maintain denial (if you have pc) even if the opponent gets a sanctuary out.
  • be somewhat stronger vs hope in case you have CC

however, new cards will bring more uses.

Still, the simple cost of drawing a card can be too much for this.
Thus, this needs -like precognition- a secondary effect,
which can also be a deciding factor on the precise cost.
This could be drawing a card, healing, or generating quanta...

Then there is the case of the name, which should also give the element.
this seems to sort of counter :light;
it seems to only combo with scarabs, thus it'll be probably better within :time or :gravity.

So, does this idea have any way of coming to life at all?
should it be a permanent or a creature, to allow repeatable uses?
a way to make it work?
any other suggestions?

Three uses is a good starting number, and more will hopefully be added in the future. I suppose you can add Nova/Supernova to the list, even though it's a bit different. I don't see a problem with this card not being in a specific one of the 12 elements.
It is the greatest mystery of all...

Would this make devour use it's ability twice?. And how about ,rol,dragon fly,gnomes, light emitting creatures, ash eater? Also would this affect the use on cards you ca only use once each turn like a ffq? would it be restored so you can use the ability twice on a turn?

no, no, no, no, and no.

this is not something that 'ends the turn'.
the only thing related to 'end of turn' is that usually happens at the end of turn.
thus, abilities cannot be used again.

In this mechanic, 'the nova-effect (about to generate singularity)' should not reset either.

Note that I'm not saying this can't be a good way to make this card work, it's just not a 'card update'.

I completely forgot about spark (and phase salvager).
however, this is NOT equal to an end of turn; it rather just checks if everything on the field is the way it's supposed to be.
thus, turn-counters do not get lowered by 1.

Being able to create a death effect with spark and salvager before the turn is over can lead to some subtle strategies. I'm not sure if it would be worth a card slot in the deck though.
