Base Instincts

Element - Life
Cost - 7 :life
Type - Shield

All creatures in play lose all abilities and are 'vanilla'.

Animal Instincts
---------------
Element - Life
Cost - 6 :life
Type - Shield

All creatures in play lose all abilities and are 'vanilla'.

Not sure how to word vanilla.  Want some mechanism to not only remove activated abilities but inherent ones such as the voodoo doll's ability.  This card is intended to provide Green with a bit of creature control without going too far or against green's flavor.  Would seem to combo well with Green's collection of vanilla creatures.

Well, let me back that up a bit.  I would assume it would apply to immortal creatures as the spell doesn't 'target' them.  But, Element's mechanics might not work that way.  I would assume immortal text would read, "can't be affected by spells or abilities" instead of, "Can't be targeted" if immortal creatures were meant to be immune to non-targeted spells like this.

But, this could just be my lack of knowledge.

At any rate, my intention was that it would apply to immortal creatures as well as any other.

For comparison, AoE spells (Rain of Fire, Plague, Thunderstorm, Pandemonium) do not affect immortal creatures, but shields (Fire Shield, Skull Shield, Thorn Carapace) do.

Yeah.  Does that distinction make sense to anyone?  Because it's not logical to me.  By my mind all those should affect immortal creatures based on the wording of immortal.

I'll bet this has it's own thread somewhere and has been hashed to death all ready.  Am I right?

Changed it into a shield.  That should take away some of the problem with Immortals, shoudlnt' it?
