I think it'd fit better as a  :gravity effect: coalescing the Immaterial, to make it have mass again.  Might be a bit too much damage, as well - it's already got a powerful effect, is an extra Fire Lance of damage necessary?
The counter to :gravity isn't :aether; it's :D

This is true but before said immortal creature could not be buffed. Now it is a whole new story.

True.  But does that mean we should make immaterial removable?

If the current CL meta remains as it is, then yes.  With Mirror Shield and Jade Shield banned, but SoW allowed, Immaterial creatures = win.

Removing Immaterial status seems fair - can you think of any other type of creature or effect that allows for no counters whatsoever, other than Immaterial/quint +SoW?

As memimemi mentioned, I think this would fit gravity better.  There aren't very many counters to immortality, and this would help with respect to that.  Of course, if Zanz made nontargeted effects like pandemonium or firestorm actually hit immaterial creatures, that would help as well, but I don't think that's ever going to happen, in no small part because Zanz is purposefully trying to avoid taking the same route as other CCGs.  This in itself is a good thing.  I just hope Zanz gets around to coding more meta-improving cards when he gets a chance... :)
