Three-player teams representing a pair of opposing elements battle other teams in five rounds of Round Robin, with the top 8 teams advancing to a seeded single-elimination tournament; the last remaining team fights amongst themselves to crown the true Lord of the Dance.
1. SIGNING UPAnyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.
Maximum amount of participants for this event is
36, and the number of participants in the event must be a
multiple of 3. If the event is full, you can still sign up as a reserve player, and will get a chance to join the event if any of the 36 players doesn't show up during round 1.
2. TEAM SELECTION (really only useful for the organizers to completely understand)Players cannot manually select their teammates; teams will be semi-randomly, but systematically determined through a selection process.
During sign-ups, each player lists their top 5 preferred personal elements (in descending order), and their top 2 preferred Third Wheel elements (in descending order). The Third Wheel elements must NOT be opposing elements to one another.
For example, if Player A has the following application form:
Preferred Personal Elements:
Preferred Third Wheel Elements:
Each three-person team consists of a Leader, a Partner, and a Third Wheel. The Leader and Partner will have opposing Personal Elements, and the Third Wheel may have any element other than the ones that the Leader and the Partner already have.
A sample team configuration:
Leader:
Partner:
Third Wheel:
The names of the participants is put in a randomized order. The first player on the randomized list will be put into their first choice of Preferred Personal Elements, as the Leader of a team. Each following player in the first 1/3 of the ordered list will be the Leader of a new team. All pairs of opposing elements will be represented by at least 1 pair of Leader and Partner, but by no more than 2 pairs.
If a player's first Preferred Personal Element breaks this rule, then their Personal Element will be the second Preferred Personal Element, etc. If all five Preferred Personal Elements break the rule, then that player will be assigned a random element that does not break the rule.
In the middle 1/3 of the ordered list, these players will be sorted into the Partner slots of teams in the same fashion as the Leaders.
In the last 1/3 of the ordered list, these players will be sorted into the Third Wheel slots of teams, based on their Preferred Personal Elements. However, once they are placed in a team, they will use their first choice of Preferred Third Wheel Element instead. If their first choice of Third Wheel Element is already used by the team, they will use their second choice instead.
3. PHASES OF PLAYThe event has three phases: Square Dance, Troika, and Tango. At the end of each phase, the number of remaining players diminishes.
If there are fewer than 8 teams at the beginning of the event, then only the top 4 teams will advance to Phase 2, with the seeding adjusted accordingly (1st seed vs. 4th seed, 2nd seed vs. 3rd seed).
4. PHASE 1: SQUARE DANCEThe Square Dance phase consists of 5 rounds of Round Robin. Each team will fight a randomly determined team each round. Each team battle will have a Tempo Element (more on this later).
Here is a sample battle bracket between Team A and Team B:
| Team A | Tempo: Allegro | Team B | |
| Leader A | vs. | Leader B | |
| Partner A | vs. | Partner B | |
| Third Wheel A | vs. | Third Wheel B | |
DECKBUILDINGIn each round, players must use
duo-decks (as defined by the forum definition of "cards from any two elements, and may also include cards from Other"). Decks must contain at least 50% cards of the primary element (Other is not an element) -- a player's personal element is their primary element. The deck's secondary element must be chosen from any one of the elements represented on the player's own team, or the Tempo element.
In the case of the sample bracket provided, Leader A must use at least 50%
(Leader's element) cards as their primary element, while their second element in the duo may come from
(Partner's element),
(Third Wheel's element), or
(Tempo element).
DUELSEach match consists of 5 duels (5 duels per player, so a total of 15 duels will be fought by each team per round). All five duels must be fought in each match.
Players have 4 days to make the fight happen. They must contact their opponent using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both. If one or both players can't find a time to fight, a teammate from their team may sub in for them with a small penalty -- the non-subbed player starts off with one win, and only 4 duels need to be fought (no penalty is given if both teams sub the match).
If the fight doesn't happen, both players lose by default, unless one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time. Event organizer will determine who the most active player was, and his or her word is final.
You are allowed to change decks and marks in between each duel.
It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.
AFTER DUELSWinner should post in the appropriate match topic in the "Battle Results" section, along with short description of how the match went.
Both the winner and the loser are required to post pictures of both their decks. A short matchup review / play-by-play is recommended but not necessary.
SCORINGAt the end of the round, each player refers to the following chart to see how many points they scored for their team:
Outcome | Points |
5-0 | 5 |
4-1 | 4 |
3-2 | 3 |
2-3 | 2 |
1-4 | 1 |
0-5 | 0 |
3-0* | 3 |
0-3* | -3 |
0-0** | -3 |
* The 3-0 score is given to the clearly more active and proactive player (one who took initiative to make the match happen) if the match is not played.
** The 0-0 score is given to both teams if neither one makes an effort to make the match happen.
The sum of the scores for all 3 players on the team is the team's score for the round.
ADVANCEMENTAt the end of 5 rounds, the 8 teams with the highest total scores advance to Phase 2. Doing well in Phase 1 gives an advantage in Phase 2.
If there is a tie in the rankings, add up the total scores of the teams that the team played. The team with the highest total opponent score (i.e. the team who played against stronger opponents) is ranked higher.
5. PHASE 2: TROIKAThe Troika phase consists of a 3-round single elimination tournament. Teams are seeded according to their performance in Phase 1; 1st seed faces 8th seed, 2nd seed faces 7th seed, and so on.
Similar to Phase 1, each team battle will have a Tempo Element.
Here is a sample battle bracket between Team A and Team B:
| Team A | Tempo: Allegro | Team B | |
| Leader A | vs. | Leader B | |

Each battle is best three out of five duels. The match is best two out of three. This means that at least 2 players on the team must win 3 games each for their team to win the match.
You are allowed to change decks and marks in between each duel.

6. PHASE 3: TANGOThe Tango phase is a Round Robin battle before
Similar to Phases 1 and 2, each team battle will have a Tempo Element. However, each individual battle will have a Mood Element.
Here is a sample battle bracket:

Matches are best-of-seven. The first player who wins 4 individual duels, wins the match.
You are allowed to change decks and marks in between each duel.

ADVANCEMENTIf there is a conclusive winner (one player wins their matches against both players), the event ends, and he or she is crowned Lord of the Dance.
If there is no conclusive winner (each player wins a match against one player and loses to the other), each player counts how many games they won in Phase 3 (including the games won in losing matches). The player with the greatest number of wins is crowned Lord of the Dance.
If there still is no conclusive winner, the players tied for first place will play a Sudden Death best-of-one match (within a 2 day time limit) using the same Mood and Tempo elements as before. The winner of the Sudden Death match is crowned Lord of the Dance.
7. WINNERThe last remaining team (the winner of Phase 2: Troika) receives a Dancer award icon. The winner of Phase 3: Tango will be crowned the Lord of the Dance and receives the Lord of the Dance award icon.
8. REWARDSThe winning team (winners of Phase 2) will receive the following award icon:
The Lord of the Dance (winner of Phase 3) will receive the following forum award icon (instead of the previous icon):
