This is a work in progress. Main idea is posted here and this post will be prettified later if people are interest.

Phase 1

This will be a team event where people do not choose their team ( or do they?)

People sign up in the sign-up topic and PM the organiser the element they want to play in. The 6 most popular elements will be banned for the duration of phase 1, and the people who picked them will be randomized in the remaining elements.

Then, players from each team will be placed into groups, each group containing 1 player from each team, with STANDINs if needed.

Matches are best of 5, You cannot use an off-element more than once in a match. Deck must be 50%+ of your element.

Here I'm not sure which to go with. Should I make it an event in which
1- Each win brings you a point, and the team with most points goes to phase 2
or
2- Each win brings you a point, and the 6 players with the most points go to phase 2, making teams more of a non-factor other than having the same element?

Phase 2

Each of the remaining players choose 2 elements. If an element is chosen by more than 1 player, both players will not be given the element and instead receive a random one.

The only cards available to the player will be the cards from the element he had in round 1, and the 2 elements he gets now.

Round robin style, everybody faces everybody in a bo5. The player with the most wins wins the event. ( In case of a tie, most individual games, then head-to-head record)

I love this idea for an event, I'm not 100% sold on the exact way the groups work in Phase 1, and would love to hash out the way this should work, but other than that it looks great!

Say I get those signups. Water through aether are banned, and players are redistributed.
That makes 78 (highly unlikely, lol). So 13 players per team.

Therefore, there would be 13 groups made.

Player 1 from entropy would play against player 1 from death, gravity, earth fire life and fire.

Player 2 from entropy would play against player 2 from death gravity earth fire life and fire

etc.

Then, in option one, the element with most points goes to phase 2, and in option 2, the top 6 (or could be another number I guess) go to phase 2.

Well, I think I get the idea of what you're trying to say, but there are a few problems in my opinion:
By definition of being a popular element for this event, a lot of people will end up with randomized elements after having their element banned: the advantage is that distribution among remaining elements can easily be fine-tuned, but you may end up in an element you have zero affinity with. Perhaps allow a ranked list of a few elements? You could then calculate popular slightly different so that if you had a list of 3, 1st counts as 3 points, 2nd as 2 points, 3rd as 1 point for example. Only if the entire top 3 gets banned would your element be randomized (for sign-ups), otherwise you get the highest ranking element that is not banned. I can see people intentionally putting Aether and Entropy on top just to ensure Dimensional Shield and Discord are banned if Phase 1 includes mainly monos.

The idea of teams doesn't really seem to fit with the randomization either: some people with possibly no affinity with your element just happen to face people in a different group with coincidentally the same element. Add the fact that you will potentially face each other in phase 2 (hmm, isn't this something like Budokan with phases 1 and 2 reversed? Or am I seeing this wrong?) and you really don't want to help them. So then I'd go with x players with most points (or maybe the winner of each group?).

Depends on the amount of groups, if we have as low as 4 groups (24 players) then we can make top 2 from each group pass. But if we have too much, I can't allow 12 people round robin it just gets crazy.

As for having a top 3 and making points count, I tend to agree. Sounds better this way.
