King of the Hill(pvp event idea inspired by kirbylover314): Interest Check https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=55902.msg1157752#msg1157752
« on: September 30, 2014, 02:25:07 pm »
    king of the Hill

    The basic Idea/Concept

King of the hill is an idea for a pvp event that involves playing games against different players to become king of the hill: aka the one with the most points.

Each player starts with one win and one loss(this will make sense in a moment) and is aloud to play any player in a best 2/3 match with a unique twist on the usual gameplay to determine he winner. Upon defeating a player in the best of X match, they receive points equal to the opponents wins, and whoever lost the match loses points equal to the opponents losses. For example:

    Shinki12345: 5 wins and 4 losses, 9 points total

    Vs

    Kirbylover314: 7 wins and 5 losses, 11 points total

If I were to win, I would receive 7 points, going up to a total of 16 points 6 wins and 4 losses, and Kirbylover would lose 4 points and end up with 7 wins 6 losses and 7 points total.

    Rules and Gameplay

In addition to these rules, there is one more mechanic I have chose to add to this event; an element of randomness. Each player will decide what decks they play based on a semi-random die roll, here's how it works:
    Spoiler for Hidden:
    :entropy: 1
    :death: 2
    :gravity: 3
    :earth: 4
    :life: 5
    :fire: 6
    :water: 7
    :light: 8
    :air: 9
    :time: 10
    :darkness: 11
    :aether: 12

    • Colors of the deck will be decided based on a 2d12 die roll, each player rolls for their colors in PM with their opponent(using /roll(2d12) command). If I roll a 9 + 10, my colors are time and air, if I roll a 10 + 10, I'm playing mono-time. A new die roll is done every game, players will not be aloud to use the same pair of numbers during the 2-3 games played, if the same number is rolled for the same person, that person rerolls
    • Decks must consist of at least 30% of each element and cannot use cards from other elements(this does jot include colorless cards, short swords are allowed).
    • All cards must be unupped  shards are banned by default unless both players agree to use them.
    • You may play against anyone whenever you choose as many times as you like, but you cannot play the same person again until you have played at least 3 matches with other participants.
    • Duels are decided by the individual, you may choose to duel any amount of people during the duration of the event.
    • Winners must post their die rolls and deck lists for all 3 games when posting the results of a match.

    Purpose/Niche

Essentially, the purpose of this event is to discourage farming easy pray as the gains become much smaller over time, while the potential losses can become quite large. This also encourages a thematic "King of the Hill" flavor since the person on top(the KotH) is most likely only going to accept challenges from other high ranking players.

The event is meant to combine every essential piece of skill involved in elements pvp: Deck building, deck choice, gameplay, and most importantly: creativity. This event will hopefully encourage new ideas in combinations that are not commonly seen, creating a deck that uses earth/wind seems like a pretty interesting experience to say the least.[/list]

Should I change the name to something different? This is an idea for a weekly/bi-weekly event. The idea was sort of inspired by my unending craving for more continuos pvp events like BL/CL. Also, Kirby's idea of semi-random deck building was the most enjoyable pvp I've ever experience in elements, it combines everything I love about the game into one.

Also, should I try changing the idea to something less similar? Or is he concept different enough to not be considered the same?

We already have weekly pvp events and they are called: tournaments.

A PvP event has a beginning, a running and an ending. It's not something that occurs weekly/bi-weekly, otherwise is a sort of weekly tournament.

Alright, fair enough, I will change it to an event idea.

Of course, nothing is stopping you from hosting a similar kind of event (i mean weekly/bi weekly), but it would be an unofficial one.

I'll see if this catches on as a pvp event, then if people like it then I'll try doing an unofficial monthly event since it will give more time to acquire points.

Any thoughts on the concept and gameplay? The post is almost finish, just a few more improvements and it should be done.

I think the name needs to be changed, yes. Otherwise I didn't have time to read the rules, so nothing of value from me now.
