If you won your match 3-0 and are a Defender, you have successfully stolen some of the Invaders' advanced technology. This allows everyone in your team the option to use a certain amount of upgraded cards in their decks for the remainder of the event. This number is defined by the total number of points you have divided by 3. You are now alloted one player swap, which allows you to swap any one Defender for any one Invader, both of your choosing.
Why an unnecessarily complicated system like that? The most logical way to do the technology stealing is clearly players stealing ALL the high technology that the opponent used during the battle. So if the invader used 6 upped cards, then the defender will steal those same 6 upped cards. If the invader used 3, the defender steal 3. Simple.

That system works the best because invaders have to really think about how many upped cards they want to use. If they get greedy and take too many, a loss could be devastating.

About that last part.. why is it needed? Problem with swaps like that is the fact that there's a need for extra step of communication. Instead of organizer doing the seeding and battles starting straight away, we now have an extra phase of discussing about who replaces who, and then informing the opponent and organizers about it.

Hmm.... I originally came up with the "divided by 3" aspect just on the fly, because I felt that a one-for-one deal would be too heavy. Your look on it makes it look like a good thing, however. I'm torn between the two sides. :-/

Ah, that part was something I just stuck in there for filler while I tried to remember the original way I had planned to do it. I must have forgotten about it. ^^; My bad.
I'll fix it up later.

Updated the cardpools for Defenders and Invaders.

Comments? Questions?

While flavorful, the cardpool division should be tipped another bit towards Defenders in my opinion. Upped cards are a HUGE advantage.

Agreed. I'm thinking of putting some powerful cards on the Defenders's side, maybe Arsenic or Graboid. Any other ideas?

I'd give them some key cards for some strategies. For instance, if you leave Fire Bolt out there, upped Firestall may kill the event.

Maybe give Defenders sanc and Invaders fire bolt?

Would there be a way to continue the actual "invasion" mechanic for more than one round of play? 'Cause after the first round, it just turns into a single elimination tournament with some card restrictions... and we have those every week...

I'm having a hard time understanding the theme of the card lists you've chosen for the Invaders and Defenders.  Are they mostly random or do they have something in common?

My initial thoughts is that all Shield-type cards would belong to Defenders, and all direct damage types to Invaders.  The Creature cards could be split up a bit too.  I just don't see how the cards you picked for each side fit into the event theme or the role of that group.
Carpe Diem!!

Timeline and technology vs the past, I think.

Bingo. I chose the cards with the most alien-looking art for Invaders, and the most earthly looking art for Defenders. From this point forward, however, card divisions won't be based on that, it'll be based on how I want the powers to shift. (I.e. sanc for Defenders and Bolt for Invaders)
Would there be a way to continue the actual "invasion" mechanic for more than one round of play? 'Cause after the first round, it just turns into a single elimination tournament with some card restrictions... and we have those every week...
It appears as though this was a common misconception:

To clarify:
Stage 1 is a single elimination tournament where Defenders (10 man team) face off against Invaders (also a 10 man team). The winner of Stage 1's team will move on to Stage 2.
