I was thinking about something similar to what DL suggested.
The way I see it, the main issue with this event is that if you take away the cool alien theme and the cool image, and look at the mechanics only, the event is pretty simple, maybe too simple. The other issue is that I don't think you've taken full advantage of the alien theme. and really think what kind of things happen in all those lame alien movies.
Things that happen in alien movies:
- humans steal the technology of aliens, and use it against them
- aliens kill a human and take its form
- humans get owned at start, but ultimately find a way to win
etc.
The technology thing DL mentioned is a very good idea. When aliens invade, they naturally have the technological advantage (upped cards), but humans could have something like "human spirit" (certain cards only they can use, example: Hope). So even though humans have disadvantaged in certain areas, they find a way to beat the aliens.
About "abduction". I think it has some theme problems, because why would "abduction" mean that one of the aliens goes to fight for humans? According to rules, it's just a totally random "two players switch places", which doesn't really sound like an abduction to me.
Here are some quick ideas I just had based on the above:
- Each round, Aliens pick one players they try to "abduct". If this player loses 0-3, he or she gets abducted and fights for Aliens for the rest of the event
- If a human wins 3-0 against an Alien, they steal the technology Aliens used in that match. In other words, from now on they get to use the upped cards that the losing Alien used.
I guess what I'm saying is that I personally would like an alien event that used the more of the alien theme, instead of just using a simple theme with an alien invasion name attached to it.
