Elemental Stock Exchange - Rules
Original idea by: Bonestorm   |   Developed by: Bonestorm   |   Art by: Bonestorm   |   Organized by: TBC

The world of the stockbroker is a cut-throat passage to success, do you have what it takes to take on the strongest monetary minds around and transcend the pile as the Cardinal Trader?

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?

Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. You can sign up only by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

Maximum amount of participants for this event is 32. When the event is full, there will be no reserve signups; anyone who does not show for round one will receive a loss and elimination from the tournament.

2. GETTING READY

Each player starts with the same account of electrum. They can use this electrum to buy shares (cards) in each of the 12 (one for each element) major corporations of the land - The EleCorps. Upgraded cards are available as luxury shares in each EleCorp, and will have increased cost accordingly. The shares will rise and fall due to player market-activity (more/less players investing in certain EleCorps will generally drive price of their shares down/up) aswell as random event occurences (positive and negative shocks to the economy as a whole or per-EleCorp). As a result of this, the more popular elements will generally be worth less total electrum in future rounds, meaning that any players ingenious enough to survive using other elements will be rewarded with a better return on their investments (more upgraded cards later in the tournament.)

Electrum not allocated into shares will be held in the player's electrum account. Electrum held in account will generally return more than money invested in shares.

Example of Market Shock:
A leak in shifty backroom corporate sales information has led to public knowledge of :death Corp's popular brand of poptart, Nyan-Flaps, to contain traces of Arsenic. Shares in  :death Corp have consequently fallen dramatically for this round.

3. BRACKETS

This event is a single-elimination tournament and uses a regular 1v1 tournament bracket.

In short, to win - you are the last broker standing.

4. DUELS

Players have 4 days to make the fight happen. They must contact their opponent using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both. If the fight doesn't happen, both players lose by default, unless one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time. Event organizer will determine who the most active player was, and his or her word is final.

Matches are best-of-five. The first player who wins 3 individual duels, wins the match.

You are only allowed to use cards in your matches based on the shares you have acquired from each individual elecorp.

Each player you elimate will earn you half the net cost of their shares portofolio and electrum account.

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.

5. AFTER DUELS

Winner should post a new topic in the "Battle Results" section, along with short description of how the match went. Both the winner and the loser are required to post pictures of all of their decks.

After round 1, all decks and share-selections from all players are 100% visible to everyone. This means that starting from round 2, you will know what cards your opponent immediately has available, and may partially strategise accordingly.

6. WINNER

The final remaining broker will be awarded the title of Cardinal Trader and is the winner of the event.

7. REWARDS

The winner of the event will receive the following forum award icon: *likely some cash related icon like a faux-dollar bill.*

(This event will likely require some form of balancing and possibly some card bans, these rules may of course be subject to change.) :)

Looks like a solid foundation to build on.  Have you considered making it a dual-phase system where players build up their portfolio for several rounds and then the top 8 or 16 play in the tournament format?  In a 4 round tournament players just might not have enough time to really build up a decent portfolio, not to mention some players generally need 1 or 2 rounds to really get the hang of things in new events.
Carpe Diem!!
