When I looked at this quickly, I had doubts that it would work properly.
However, now I think that, if the rules are strict enough, it could work out to be quite a good tourney.
My initial thought of this tourney was that it was very alike the last trial, and what I am suggesting below sounds a bit more like leagues, except with fun? rules.
Instead of having the two players decide on the 'shot', it would probably be best if there is a chat or a list of 'shots' that players can choose from. Although respectful players may not do this, some players may go on to create shots that are rather extreme (and some may not even know it!). The set 'shots' would not be very strict, and on later games, people could choose more shots to increase the difficulty.Instead of having 'horse' change it to 'elements!'Instead of having two players play until one gets 'horse' ('elements' please , the rules could be made so that you cannot play anymore games / matches on that day if you get a letter, and you can play as many opponents as you want if you don't get any letters on that day. Any players who collect all the letters would be dropped from the list of players. One day would probably be longer than 24 hours just to allow for the maximum number of matches
Some ideas that I quickly wrote down
Letting players "call the shots" is an interesting concept, but as xSInDoMaNx stated it could lead to tremendous amounts of confusion and would be open to lots of abuse. Maybe instead of players calling the shots each "day" the organizer could post the "shot" selection for all players and then any player able to accomplish it in that day wouldn't get a letter. This way inactive players would simply "letter" out.
I also like changing the word to something more elements-related. It might work well also to try and work it into a theme that isn't related to sports, as those themes have been highly discouraged in the past.
Alright so what you guys are proposing is some sort of pool of players. In each round, a bunch of challenges are listed(always a certain number less than the amount of competetitors). Those players must create decks to meet those challenges and challenge others through chat. Those that have completed one of the round challenges, will post in a results page, essentially crossing that challenge off the list. No one else can complete that challenge for that round and ninjaing makes it better.
So if there are 50 people you can probably list 40 challenges. so at least 10 are elliminated.
Then 40 left so you can list 32
32 left so 24
24 so 18
18 -- 12
12-->8
Think of it sort of like musical chairs ish when you get down to the last few the rules are probably going to have a to change a little bit. As obviously those that live on certain timezones will be better prepared to complete tasks before the others will wake up. and this event shouldnt be won based of off activity
Maybe when it gets to the top 8 I was thinking of 2 choices
Either sort of an 8 person tournament setting which is a little less exciting. This would be more like what was initially had but with set "shots" they must try in order.
or some sort of scavenger hunt type thing. Like a week to complete as many premade shots as possible the person with the most by the end wins.
These could be anything from beating a FG with an unnupped deck, completing the rings of platinum, a 4 turn win, a long list of "shots" , screenshot someone looking at your profile on "who's online", get someone to quote you in WPSIC, I mean everything is fair game.
or possibly something else if anyone mentions anything better
Of course the name is going to be changed
It was just a way to get people to understand the idea. and is probably going to go with the theme. Maybe something like "Elemental and the Holy Grail" Everyone is competing to hunt for the prize, and once they complete the journey there, they realize that a few competitor have made it as well and everyone proceeds to fight till a winner is named.
This theme could also give people certain items to use once along the way
Holy hand grenade of antioch. - forces opponent to use 4 relics in their deck
"Bridge of Death" - opponent must answer 3 questions about their deck
