Curse of the False Gods - Rules
Original idea by: Kuroaitou   |   Developed by: Xenocidius   |   Art by:    |   Organized by:

Skilled players face each other. As they fight they are blessed and cursed by different False Gods depending on the reputation they gain with them. This is a single-elimination tournament.

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?
Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

Maximum amount of participants for this event is 32. If the event is full, you can still sign up as a reserve player, and will get a chance to join the event if any of the 32 players doesn't show up during round 1.

2. THE FALSE GODS
These are the False God cards. The card art displayed on them is that of their identity card (so Decay's identity card is Pest, Dream Catcher's is Butterfly Effect, etc.). The elemental background of their cards is their main element (so Serket's main element is Death, Lionheart's is Time, etc.). Note that the elemental icons on the cards are purely decorative.

3. REPUTATION
A player has different amounts of reputation with each different False God. Every player begins with 0 reputation for each False God at the start of the event.

Every time a player duels another player, they post the decks they used. For each deck they gain and lose rep:

GAINING REPUTATION
A player gains 1 rep with a False God for every one of the False God's non-pillar cards in their deck.A player gains an extra 1 rep with a False God for every copy of the False God's identity card in their deck.A player gains 3 rep with a False God if their mark matches the False God’s
main element*.
*This does not apply to Rainbow, as Rainbow has no element.

LOSING REPUTATION
A player loses 1 rep with a False God if their deck contains no copies of the False God’s
identity card.A player loses 3 rep with a False God if their deck contains none of the False God's non-pillar cards.
4. DECKBUILDING
Each round, a player has deckbuilding rules based on their reputation with False Gods:
A player can only use a False God's identity card in their deck if they have more than 12 rep with that False God.A player may use upgraded copies of a False God's identity card if they have more than 24 rep with that False God.A player may only use a rainbow* deck if they have more than 12 rep with Rainbow.A player may only use nymphs if they have more than 12 rep with Jezebel.
*Classified by the forum definition.

5. DUELS
Players have 5 days in which to make the duel happen. Matches are best of 5. Decks may be changed between games.

6. AFTER DUELS
A new topic will be started in the "Battle results" section for each matchup. The winner and loser should both post after each duel, listing the deck they used in each game.

7. WINNER
The player who survives to the finals and wins is the winner of the event.

8. REWARDS
The winner of the event will a forum award icon.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Is/are there:
Anything pertaining to one's mark for FG rep?
Any other benefits of FG rep besides upped cards? Perhaps similar to the arena - 2Xdraw/size, hp, etc.
A maximum rep?
A minimum rep?
A deck size restriction or limit?

The rep is quite a bit to keep track of - who does it, and where? (Who keeps track of it and is it in the post where you show your deck, or on a google spreadsheet or something else?). Can you start off in the favor of FGs?

Although the event gives the impression of 'Cursing', I haven't seen anything that is really a 'curse', or negative consequence besides losing rep, which imo isn't a curse.
It is the greatest mystery of all...

I changed the rules just a while ago, and I'm not sure if you read the updated rules.

Because now using a False God's identity card requires 12 or more rep, all the False God's identity cards are banned at the start of the event. So the incentive to gaining rep is being able to use those cards. (Note that I'll probably change some of the cards; for example, Dream Catcher to Supernova, Chaos Lord to Discord, etc.).

There is no maximum or minimum rep, nor deck size restriction.

The rep will be kept track of by the organizer. It will either be done in a Google Docs spreadsheet manually, or I'll create a program in which to input the deck codes and have it done automatically.

It could be interesting if everyone started off with one False God to be in favor of, but I fear everyone may pick Rainbow just to be able to use rainbow decks.

Ah; They changed while I wasn't looking; Now for questions on the new rules.

"A player gains 1 rep with a False God for every one of the False God's cards in their deck."

Does this include pillars/pends?

Is reputation added for each match or for each duel?
It is the greatest mystery of all...

This does not include pillars/pends. Incidentally, I changed Rainbow's identity card from Quantum Tower to Electrum Hourglass to avoid confusion.

Reputation is added after each match (3-5 games), for each deck used.

I like this competition, seems like it'd be an interesting thing to try out. The main problem, at least in my opinion, is that it may be confusing for players at first, but that can always been changed by doing a variety of things... even a demonstration :P. It seems interesting, if it becomes reals, I'll probably give it a try.

Good idea,

i dont quite get the deck building piece it says you cant use an FG's identity card until you get 12 rep but it also says -1 rep if you dont use the FG's identity card... thats slightly confusing to me, did i misunderstand something?

Yep. Gods are spiteful, you know, punishing people unfairly. You'll have to gain rep with them in other ways to outgain the automatic rep loss you get from not using their identity card.

Otherwise, I could always get rid of that rep loss rule, and make it such that you only lose rep if you use none of the False God's cards. Thoughts?

i figure if its gonna be something like that the number should be lower that is my thoughts cuz out doing the rep to +12 could take quite a while, I say 3-6 rep its a fine idea but the rep number is very high.

Intersting idea this is. I hjave a few questions.

1- How are the matchups decided? Is this a single elim? double elim? swiss style?

2- Do you choose your false god or ?? If so, can you change false god in other games?

3- say i am currently trying the Rainbow false god, do i lose rep for incarnate?

4- how many rounds would this last? As an events time must be around 30 days, you would have only 6 rounds if you make them 5 days each. 4 days makes it 7-8 rounds.

Thats about it for now, ill re-post if i get other questions. Thanks for reading and hopefully answering them.

1. This a single-elimination tournament. With 32 players, this means 5 rounds, each lasting 5-6 days.

2. You don't choose any False Gods. You simply gain and lose reputation with different Gods.

3. Not sure what this means.

4. See answer 1.

I remade some of the False Gods with feedback from RootRanger (thanks!). I'd like some feedback on which ones I should keep (note that cards must be exclusive to a single False God):

They have to be exclusive? That's a bummer, because their main strategy card can't help but be used in other FG decks in such a small card pool. When I think of the FGs, I think of the ones shownoriginal thread (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,30052.msg408626#msg408626), (btw, Flooding won Neptune's poll, not Poseidon), I think the original thread is fine.

Also, very few of the remade ones here show exclusive cards to that FG. If you want exclusive, I think Serket's the only one that purposely uses Life Nymph. (Purposely referring to Jezebel).
