A double round-robin league, where everyone plays with everyone.

Spoiler for Explanation of The Name:

The term round-robin is derived from the French term ruban, meaning "ribbon". Over a long period of time, the term was corrupted and idiomized to robin.

The blue ribbon is a symbol of high quality. The association comes from The Blue Riband, a prize awarded for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by passenger liners and, prior to that from Cordon Bleu, which referred to the blue ribbon worn by a particular order of knights.

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?

Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

Maximum amount of participants for this event is 16. If the event is full, you can still sign up as a reserve player, and will get a chance to join the event if any of the 16 players doesn't show up during Phase 1.

The only additional restriction is that you have to be flexible enough to arrange all of your
matches since too much cancelled matches would make the whole idea hollow.

2. GETTING READY

The Blue Ribbon League would run for 3 months. With maximum player number it would mean 30 matches for everyone, about 2 matches per week. It is strongly advised to play matches on a regular basis, otherwise you will end up having too many matches in later stages. To help with that rules expect you having at least 10 matches played in each month.

As in any double round-robin tournament you will have "Home" matches, and "Away" matches. For "Home" matches you decide the ruleset, for "Away" matches your opponent decides the ruleset. Rulesets must apply to both of you, for example you cannot create one-sided, biased rules, like your opponent cannot use (a) certain card(s) while you are allowed to use that. You can have different rules for each games of the matches.

If your opponent doesn't accept the otherwise fair (see above) ruleset, that means he/she forfeited the game.

4. MATCHES

Players will have 3 months to make their matches happen (see point 2.). They must contact their opponents using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both. Please keep a copy of all PMs sent and received, in case the fight doesn't happen. If one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time, they will receive the win. Event organizer will determine who the most active player was.

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. If there is a dispute in a game, PM all pertinent information to the Event Organizer and continue on with that duel. The EO will look at all the information and make a ruling. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.

5. AFTER MATCHES

Post your results, ruleset and your decks into the corresponding Blue Ribbon League topic.
Format for posting the result is as usual, but be sure to write the "Home" player first!

6. WINNER

The player with the most wins is the winner of the Blue Ribbon League. In case of having more players with the same win/loss ratio these players will have to play some extra matches to decide the final rankings. (2 players = one final match; 3 players = 3 matches round-robin style, 4 players = 3 matches elimination style. Rules for final matches: maximum of 15 ups and no other restrictions.)

7. REWARDS

Icon for the Winner:

Since I'm not an expert on pixel art, I would accept any kind of help regarding the icons. The 2nd and 3rd place holder can have similar icons but with "2." and "3." in the head of the ribbon. Or maybe getting a different color than blue (since blue is only for the winner! ).

Code rewards (can be less if there are less participants - it'll be calculated later if needed):

Winner: 3 Nymph/Mark codes (+15k electrum)
2th place: 2 Nymph/Mark codes (+10k electrum)
3rd place: 1 Nymph/Mark codes (+5k electrum)
4th place: Shard code (+5k electrum)
5th place: Shard code (+5k electrum)
6th place: Shard code (+3k electrum)
7th place: Shard code (+3k electrum)
8th place: Shard code (+3k electrum)

Points for WC (less if there are less participants - it'll be calculated later if needed):

Winner: 16 points;
2nd place: 13 points;
3rd place: 10 points;
4th place: 6 points;
5th place: 4 points;
6th place: 3 points;
7th place: 2 points;
8th place: 1 points.

Is this a change to the format of leagues?

Many players like the easy-going format of the current league, so I don't wish to change that.
However www today showed some interest in this particular form, I guessed it do worth
a try to make a simultaneous event.

On a second thought...

if there is enough players who are interested in this we should try running this one
instead of the next League, and after then they can alternate: 1 League, 1 Blue Ribbon etc.

Completely revamping League like this is a bold move, but we're always open for suggestions. The activity this season has been rather low, keeping up with the trend of declining League activity.

Please consider posting here if you have specific, League orientated suggestions!

The idea is neat, though, if we could manage to get enough people for this.

As you can see I don't want to replace the existing League with this, just use both of them in an alternating way.
I know that ppl like the current League (I like it, too). And I know also that it wouldn't be something
shiny and new for old players (different meta and stuff), and we certainly don't have enough new players
to embrace it. I also remember that I had this conversation earlier with other members of the forum (and great
supporters of the old League format). The only reason I've spent time on elaborating this variant that
www mentioned that he would be interested in such a format. So I thought it does worth a try.

A single 3-month deadline will never work on this forum, there needs to be scheduled matches every week.

Players creating their own rulesets sounds like a recipe for disaster, there should be a default ruleset in case your opponent insists on a wack ruleset like Fate Egg mirrors or 60 card Monos or something.

Yeah, true about scheduling, though I didn't want to add too much restriction early in the planning phase.

Yea this is more of a League revamp than anything else.

I am all for a League revamp. Its incredibly boring as is. WFR are scarce now, activity is ultra low this season, rewards can be RNG based, and its monotonous. Having an opponent to look forward to is what makes many PvP events much superior to league. If you were going to actually implement this, it would either have to replace league, or would have to run alongside it. I dont see it working by alternating reg league and this. Alternating an ongoing event every 3 months is a bad idea and can lead to times where people have to wait 3 months in order to play this or to play league depending on which one suits them best.

A possible suggestion for home and away matches is having a premade set of ~10 rules, where you pick one of them for each of your home matches. Ensures a fair and open meta while you certainly get an edge by picking rules.

Measures may need to be taken for next season if League activity stays this low.
